North edge out Liquid; FaZe defeat TYLOO at ESL Pro League Finals

FaZe had issues closing out the game against TYLOO, but managed a 16-12 win in the end, while North secured a 16-13 victory over Liquid on Dust2, kicking off group B at the ESL Pro League S9 Finals.

Winning the CT pistol got TYLOO a 2-0 lead on the CT side of Vertigo, but FaZe bounced back quickly in the rifle rounds, with Nikola "NiKo" Kovač leading the fragging while utilizing the SG 553. The European side was 8-4 up swiftly, and after Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer clutched a 1v1 against WingHei "Freeman" Cheung, FaZe closed out the T side dominantly, 11-4.

NiKo was causing issues for TYLOO with the scoped weapons

In the second half pistol, Håvard "rain" Nygaard stepped up to the task with two quick headshots to allow his team to turn around a 3v5 on the B bombsite. Filip "NEO" Kubski and co. added onto their lead by confidently claiming the first rifle round as well, moving up to map point, 15-4. It looked like FaZe was going to quickly finish the map, but TYLOO started mounting momentum on the offense, getting back to 15-12. That is when, on an eco round, NEO came alive and secured four kills to end the match, 16-12.

Liquid found success early into the game against North on Dust2, taking a 4-1 lead as T before Philip "aizy" Aistrup stepped up with a triple to get the Danes into the game. North strengthened their defenses after that, bouncing back to take an 8-5 lead. Valdemar "valde" Bjørn Vangså and Markus "Kjaerbye" Kjærbye had big plays in the final rounds of the half, pushing their team up to a 10-5 half time finish.

valde was impressive in North's oppener

The Danes continued their momentum into the second half and won the second pistol and the followups to secure a massive 13-5 lead ahead of the first rifle round. Slowly but surely, Liquid mounted a comeback with the rifles, with a 3v2 retake on B being resolved in the favor of the North Americans making the score 15-11. Just when it was looking like the map was headed for overtime, North ran into the B bombsite on a mixed buy and managed to clutch out the round to secure the win, 16-13.

North has had the players and talent to be a pretty good team for a long time, but only limited results. Often they have been way too inconsistent. That being said, I realy lige the New version of North with Valde as IGL. It looks promising.

Nice spelling, kid. Take a chill about Liquid. They have not won many tournaments but always had a solid consistency. Now they lost one BO1 against another top 10 team, so what? They are not ruled out. North have been playing really well lately.

Out of their minds? Looking at Norths lineup player by player they are easily a top 3 team. They have been massively underperforming, and depending on how well Valde will continue igl'ing, they could be in top3 for a long time.

Well it's not a guardian AWP map, it's better suited for an AWPer like Stewie, very battle sniper mode type AWPing that Stewie's good at, hence him having a really good rating when he plays Vertigo

I agree, it shouldn't be called an era. It is actually a miscreditation of those teams with an actual era. Im just saying stop slamming the (maybe) best team in the world for losing one BO1 against another top 10 team. And North are starting to get scary atm with Valde as IGL.

The teams at that form they had then, I think it was much easier for gambit. Since then they have showed absolutely nothing with the same roster until changes came. Short after C9, skadaddy retired, stewie and Tarik went to mibr.

What do you even mean with "showed absolutely nothing with the same roster"? Zeus left 2 weeks after the major. Hobbit left 2 months later. Also, say what you want, but you can only beat the teams you come up against, and Gambit didn't lose a single game, whereas Cloud9 were almost eliminated after losing against G2 and Space Soldiers.
2019-06-18 16:55

Also, Gambit at least won ROG Masters for 117.500 $ a couple months afterwards. C9 literally haven't won a single tournament since the major. Skadoodle retired for a fucking week before they continued playing together for 6 months. That's a very weird definition of "short after".
