CSPPA announce 2020 summer player break dates

The Counter-Strike Professional Players' Association has notified tournament organizers when they will take their summer break in 2020.

The Counter-Strike Professional Players' Association has let tournament organizers know that top-flight teams will be taking their summer vacation in 2020 between July 15th and August 15th.

The first organized player break came about in August of 2017, before the CSPPA was founded the following year, when players from the best teams in the world decided they were not going to attend Big Events in August in order to rest ahead of the second half of the year.

The 2020 player break dates will not be in conflict with any Majors

This year's player break, which is currently underway, will be the last one to have a Major right after it, something several players openly criticized when the StarLadder Major dates were announced. The two 2020 Majors will take place in May and November, giving players ample time to rest without having to prepare for the Valve-backed events.

The move by the CSPPA to lock in the dates for the player break a year in advance follows Valve's decision to schedule for the Majors years ahead of the events, as the 2020 and 2021 Major dates have been set in order for teams, organizers, and players to be able to plan around them.

Hasn't Na'Vi and Astralis taken like 3-4 months worth of breaks already this year? There's PLENTY of downtime between S-Tier tournaments for players to have breaks - especially when some skip the events, lol... Some tier 1 orgs have even had breaks as long as a month between Lans already this year, fact. And for tier 2-300 teams, they don't need breaks, they need MORE practice to be tier 1. So, this really only applies to T1 orgs, imo. The rest should use that time to catch up.

So because some teams skip events the ones who don't shouldn't get a break? Liquid isn't skipping events, they've been playing several times a month, do they not deserve a break? So have vitality and NRG. Plus, in their down-time they're still practicing (Between events and stuff).

I believe teams should make their own breaks from events - that there doesn't need to be a mandated one. If they're greedy, they want to stay greedy. Their reward is success and money... It's their choices to skip and/or attend events. As for practicing, lol... Streaming* Practicing would involve other tier 1 teams being able to pick apart the #1 team with enough focus and practice on them. Tbh, they're kids who would rather goof around while streaming than sit in a game room and go over opponent demos and practice diff tactics. Hence why some teams stay on top for so long - lack of opposing effort.

The point of a CSPPA mandated break is so that teams don't have to organise their own breaks. So you can get the best teams at every event. The teams who are taking extra breaks consistently perform worse after them and it show's whether or not they've been practising properly. If a team takes a break in january, a different team takes a break in march, one in april, july ect. then it becomes a lot harder to get good scrims against the teams that you maybe need the most practise against. Teams aren't supposed to take random breaks, its a job, they get payed every month, so if a team is taking a break from events then they're probably practising. An organised player break allows them to choose not to practise. But you're not going to change your mind so I'm gonna stop returning to this thread.

What relevance does this actually have? Lets say I organize a 1 Mil tournament during that break. Which team is actually not going to send their players? It's basically just big talk, isn't it?

Not big talk. Prizepools are not everything nowadays. I will give the WESG tournaments for reference. Bigger prizepool than the major, barely any top 10 teams in attendance.

All big organizers will abide by these rules to keep good relations with the teams and organizations. And many top teams would be fully willing to skip large prize pool events, as they have done it in the past.

look at how many events there are right now until the major. thats the entire point - make events in a different time so most teams could come. its so rare in cs scene for players to randomly take vacations as it pretty much wrecks the team. most events/organisers invite many months in advance and plan around other events. you could do that just dont expect top teams to show up. especially if they have vacation plans already or want to prepare for the major.

I guess the players on the founding players board and their teams is a safe bet. That means liquid, MiBR, astralis, NRG, mousesports and vitality is out. Thats basically enough on its own but then theres also all of the members of csppa who'll most likely stay away. Otherwise, why would they become a member?
