dephh: "I honestly haven't noticed any pressure with oBo, he enjoys the stage"

Complexity have survived elimination on day two of the Major after picking up their first win against TYLOO, and we talked to Rory "⁠dephh⁠" Jackson about various topics connected to the event.

dephh spoke to the dynamic between himself and the team's new coach, Jamie "⁠keita⁠" Hall, who came into Complexity in June after their debut with the Owen "⁠oBo⁠" Schlatter at ECS Season 7 Finals.

The in-game leader also commented on his squad's issues on day one, during which they went 0-2 after losses to AVANGAR and HellRaisers before securing their first win in an elimination series against TYLOO. In the best-of-three, Complexity played the recently changed Vertigo, so we asked the Briton about his thoughts on the new version and its side balance.

Going back a couple of months to when you added keita and went through this whole restructuring, can you talk to me about the dynamic between you and the coach?

I think Jamie came in and added a lot of stuff that we hadn't thought about before, I think he understands CT a lot better than maybe our team did before. He brought in a lot of protocols on the way we're playing. We've been working well together, we're not disagreeing on too much, he's a really good coach. He seems to be pretty experienced for the teams that he's actually coached for and he's doing a really good job so far.

We talked to ShahZaM when you were attending your bootcamp ahead of the Major and he called it very productive. What was the general feeling after you left for the tournament about the progress that you made?

We honestly felt the best that we've ever felt in a while, so it was pretty unfortunate with the first day that we didn't really get to show that. I think throughout the tournament now going in tomorrow, taking a win today is massive for our confidence. I think it was just the jitters of maybe having a really successful bootcamp and then coming into the tournament and not being able to replicate it. We're really now just focused on staying confident. I don't think the rounds were particularly bad, it's just that our execution of them was pretty poor, so today is a great sign that we're moving forward on that.

You played Vertigo now in I think the first notable LAN match on the changed version. ShahZaM called the new version more scrappy than before, what are your thoughts on the changes?

Yeah, I actually liked the Vertigo just prior to this one where B was kind of more open, you could take B control a bit more freely. Vertigo is one of our favorite maps I think right now, so it was a shame that they made it hard for you to take B as a Terrorist. It gives you fewer things to do on the map, competitively I think it makes it a little worse to watch, but I still enjoy the map. It's pretty scrappy, but I think it's pretty nice as a spectator to watch the games on it.

It was a really one-sided first half on the T side against TYLOO, do you think the scoreline here reflects the real balance of the map, or what was it like in practice before the tournament?

I think we're always probably going to pick T side. I think that's going to be the trend for most teams, I think it's slightly T sided. I'd say it's kind of how Dust2 is right now, so like eight or nine rounds is maybe what T sides are looking at.

So it has gotten a bit more CT sided than the previous version, which was quite heavily T sided?

I think it is slightly more with the way you can control B as CTs and you don't have to worry about so much, I think it's definitely helped it out in that respect, maybe bring it closer, but I actually enjoyed having heavy T sides and then having like a scrappy CT side.

oBo is the youngest player at this Major, or any Major in history, really, how is he handling the pressure?

I honestly haven't noticed any pressure with him. He takes it under his stride, you can tell he's a competitor, he enjoys the stage... he was going for one-taps at the end there. It's going to take some time with a guy that young, but in a few months he's going to be unstoppable, really.
