Exclusivity rules to affect only certain Pro League teams

The exclusivity rules brought to light earlier on Tuesday will affect only a portion of the teams that will compete in the ESL Pro League, a source close to ESL has told HLTV.org.

A report by Dexerto revealed that a number of strict exclusivity rules will be introduced by ESL next year in the Pro League as the competition will be included in the ESL Pro Tour, a global circuit with over 20 events worldwide and a combined prize pool of over $5 million.

According to the rules, member teams of the ESL Pro League would not be able to play in other leagues, such as FACEIT’s Esports Championship Series (ECS), spanning over 14 days. These teams would also not be able to play in any other tournaments or leagues during the EPL League Season and would have to limit their involvement in tournaments other than the Pro League, Valve competitions and online qualifiers to 60 days per calendar year.

The source contacted by HLTV.org did not challenge the validity of the quoted section but guaranteed that it is not part of the ESL Pro Tour rulebook but rather of a draft of an agreement that would only be signed by a number of teams competing in the ESL Pro League.

The same source guaranteed that ESL has no interest in restricting access to its flagship league and explained that these rules aim to tackle some of the issues surrounding the competitive CS:GO ecosystem, including tournament organisers and teams “bleeding money”.

HLTV.org knows that ESL will issue a statement on the matter shortly. On September 28, the company will share more information about the structure of the ESL Pro Tour in a media briefing that will be held as part of ESL One New York.

Whatever you feel is up to you, I honestly wouldn't care if ESL leaves. I've been on CS way longer than them, a TO leaves and there's always others on the scene to fill the empty space since 1.6 days. But know that if a single company gets a hold of everything, the day ESL pulls the plug on CS we die with it. Now, if you care more about ESL or CS it's something I can't choose for you.

noob kids dont understand. As I tell you since years, csgo is dead 2k20. Economies develop in several phases. The first phase is over in 2k19/2k20, the venture capital phase. Thats when investors think a market will grow and they invest money to push this growth. The exit is usual after 7 years. Now count the years, kids. All the money is gone next year and csgo isnt even close to actually generate the money orgs and organizers are used to spend. The very few companies who will survive because they have a bizz model (like esl), have to come up with something 2k20. Something that somehow guarantees a certain cash flow before orgs just die or quit csgo in masses within a few weeks. So deal with it, in 6 months 60 70 % of csgo teams are gone and the rest plays an exlusive series which gives them some kind of financial stability to work with.

One one hand... ESL wants to create a monopol and be the prime company to organise events On the other hand... CS:GO esport needs structure and this kind of rules, cause its a one big Chaos... All tournaments (except Majors) are mostly for invited teams, changes their dates / places every year and it´s basicly up to teams what big event they want to play (top teams) without having it global impact (Like a "tour") Solution: Force VALVE to make something like this, 1 big 250K tournament every month, 1 Major at the end of a season (June/July + November/December) + other 100k tournaments for little points every month. And THE Rule that teams can attend other than "Valve sponsored" events for up to 60 days/year = Easy
