Renegades secure lower bracket final spot over MIBR in Belek

Renegades have eliminated MIBR from StarSeries following a 2-1 series win to set up a lower bracket final matchup against FURIA.

The second matchup of the day saw Renegades continue their fine form of the tournament against MIBR as the Australian side came out of the gates hot on Inferno to rapidly acquire a 5-0 lead. Aaron "⁠AZR⁠" Ward and his squad’s unrelenting offence continually proved troublesome for the Brazilians as no answer could be found, with Renegades extending their advantage to 12-0 against little resistance. MIBR eventually found success in the 13th round from a Vito "⁠kNgV-⁠" Giuseppe triple kill, with the Brazilians salvaging two follow-up rounds to head into the halftime facing an extreme 3-12 deficit.

The ending of the first half appeared to have lit a fire in the belly of MIBR as Gabriel "⁠FalleN⁠" Toledo and co. chipped away at the score difference by securing a string of three rounds. However, two successive timing blunders handed Renegades a 14-6 lead, with a follow-up Sean "⁠Gratisfaction⁠" Kaiwai double kill locking down map point for the Australians. The 16th round materialised immediately after as Renegades achieved a dominant 16-6 victory in the opening map.

MIBR looked to respond positively as the series moved to their own map pick of Train, and they did just that as a sequence of multi-kills from Fernando "⁠fer⁠" Alvarenga ensured the Brazilians gained early control to attain a 7-1 lead on the CT side. Renegades could only muster an additional two rounds on the offence before MIBR swiftly closed out the opening half with a commanding 12-3 score to give the Australians a taste of their own medicine from Inferno.

Gratisfaction picked up a trio of kills to kick off Renegades’ defence, but a 1v1 clutch from kNgV- guaranteed MIBR continued their dominance as the Brazilian side promptly levelled the series with a 16-5 map win.

The series decider, Mirage, followed the same pattern as the previous maps as a massively one-sided half unfolded. Renegades stormed to a 10-2 lead with superb clutches from Jay "⁠Liazz⁠" Tregillgas and Justin "⁠jks⁠" Savage ensuring the assertive advantage. MIBR were determined to prevent the half from slipping completely from their grasp and so buckled down to grind out two of the following three rounds to head into the halfway mark at a 4-11 shortfall.

Despite winning the pistol, MIBR could not capitalise on their early second-half success as Renegades replied instantly with a buy round off the back of a bomb plant to initiate a string of four rounds to swiftly hit series point. An AZR triple kill was the nail in the coffin for MIBR as Renegades lock down the map 16-5 to win the matchup and secure their spot in the lower bracket finals.
