valens joins Evil Geniuses as Head of Data Science

After parting ways with Cloud9 in October, Soham "valens" Chowdhury has linked up with Evil Geniuses as the organisation's Head of Data Science.

The role is not an unfamiliar one for the 30-year-old tactician, having previously held the same title on Cloud9 after he stepped down from a coaching position on the roster in July. valens most notably stood behind Cloud9 in their ELEAGUE Major title run in 2018, and coached the roster for a little over two years.

valens will reprise his role as Head of Data Science at Evil Geniuses

While his stint in Cloud9's analytical division was brief, the role was one that valens aimed to continue exploring, saying in his departure statement from Cloud9 that he planned to "keep pushing the envelope when it comes to esports analytics" while helping to turn "this industry into a sustainable, ethical, and exciting one."

The Stanford graduate will have the opportunity to do just that, aiming to help Evil Geniuses maintain their position as the No. 1 team in the world through analytics alongside in-game leader Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz and coach Chet "Chet" Singh.

Sounds like very in depth studying of the game. Like if someone dies on short what are the odds of a rotation or stacking a site. Breaking down reactions and set plays to a mathematical statistic

Current Stanford student here. Just wanted to say there’s a huge emphasis on AI and machine learning at this place. You can do so much (% of duels won from different positions, likely setup based on economy, etc.) of course you can get this info by watching demos, but if you had a script that could analyze hundreds of demos and filter data based on various factors (team, map, time period), your results should be more accurate and it saves you lots of time.

he's basically writing a program that finds out all that stuff automatically from a demo to save time but as we saw from c9 they weren't able to use it to their advantage and i doubt it'll give much info teams can use to their advantage that goes beyond common anti strats or knowing how another igl likes to call

CSGO server injection with mouse binding he prolly using python or stuffs to do data things when I see the headline I thought "he probably looking at vods and demos", almost similar to THREAT on NiP, just to give a new perspective to the main coach. but after looking at his portfolio, I have no doubt that this is more than imaginable. not restricted to CSGO too.

I use the movie Remember the Titans to compare what he does. He is the guy who will use the odds/numbers to help the teams understand the probability of something happening. In the movie, Coach Boone uses the math teacher to look at how often the other teams do what is all scenarios. This is the same concept
