DreamHack unveils Open Winter invites to finalize team list

DreamHack has unveiled five directly invited teams to the Open Winter stop to complete the list of participants of the $100,000 event.

Two teams currently ranked in the top-ten accepted invitations to the Swedish tournament, 100 Thieves and FURIA, who have enjoyed a great recovery from a sub-par end of the last season to reclaim spots among the ten best teams in the world, with both sides most recently placing in the top four at StarSeries i-League Season 8.

The remainder of the invites went out to three top-20 teams in FORZE and the finalists of the last DreamHack Open stop in Rotterdam HEROIC as well as the champions of the same event, CR4ZY.

100 Thieves will be among the favorites in Jönköping

The quintet joins a trio of teams who qualified from tournaments in Finland (SJ), Sweden (Marskalk), and Europe (Tricked), making the final team list for the Jönköping tournament taking place on November 29-December 1 the following:

This year actually have two top 10 teams, better than a few years ago... But not even close to be the biggest tournament of the year, like it used to be 15 years ago (with more than 100 fucking teams attending, lol lots of 16-0 in the first rounds, it was like the #1 team of the world versus a random mix of five players that registered one day before the tournament started)

Not that extreme, it was BYOC for the qualifiers, where there was a couple of mix teams that from time to time consisted of semi pro and pro players that didn't qualify for the main tournament. The #1 team never had to qualify, but they often faced the best teams from the BYOC since they had the worse seed.

Exactly that... And the BYOC teams usually got from 0 to 3 rounds on their opening match, because they were paired against the likes of SK, NoA, mouz, etc. I remember watching a few 16-0's, It was fun to see the difference of levels.

The top teams didn't play the BYOC, they got invited, but still lots of 16-0's since there were good mix teams and some really shitty teams who just signed up for fun.
