DreamHack Masters Jönköping announced, with $250,000 prize pool

DreamHack has announced that it will host the first Masters event of 2020 in Jönköping, Sweden, with $250,000 on the line.

The tournament will take place from June 9-14 during the DreamHack Summer Festival, which will not have an Open competition next year, with the playoffs being held at the Kinnarps Arena, an ice hockey venue with a capacity of up to 7,000.

Jönköping is connected to the history of DreamHack and of Counter-Strike itself, having hosted the very first CS:GO Major, back in 2013. It becomes the third Swedish city to host a DreamHack Masters event, after Malmö (2016, 2017 and 2019) and Stockholm (2018).

"Bringing DreamHack Masters to Jönköping really highlights a historic significance," said Marcus Lindmark, co-CEO at DreamHack. "As DreamHack grew, so did our need for space to accommodate that expansion — resulting in what we now know as DreamHack Masters today, generally standalone tournaments taking place at arenas separated from our festivals.

"To bring everything we are back to where it really all began at our DreamHack festival in Jönköping is tremendous."

DreamHack Masters Jönköping will feature 16 teams, determined by invites, qualifiers and through the DreamHack Open stops that will be held in Leipzig, from January 24-26, and in Anaheim, from February 21-23. It adds to the list of events for the Intel Grand Slam Season 3, which began in July at IEM Chicago and has seen a different team win each of the first five events.

The teams competing in Jönköping will earn points towards the ESL Pro Tour ranking as part of the Road to Cologne, the Masters Championship level tournament that ESL will host in July with $1 million on offer.

Tickets for the Swedish event will go on sale on January 10 alongside tickets for DreamHack Summer itself.
