dupreeh: "Liquid play Inferno in a way that we're not used to, in a way no other team does"

As the player of the match between Astralis and Liquid, Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen gave us some quick thoughts on the Danes' sixth consecutive victory against the North American team and on his own performance.

Having defeated Liquid on Nuke twice in December already, it was clear the Danes would pick it again in the series, but this time they found the opening map more difficult than before as the two teams were tied at 11-11 with Astralis on a halfbuy.

An unexpected victory there saw the map swing towards the Danish team, with dupreeh noting the importance of the round when we asked him about it after the match. "Every time when you have a situation when you have the same score, you know that you have to forcebuy, those rounds are extremely important. In hindsight, it was really important. It just puts you in such a better economy situation and also makes the opponents' mindset a lot worse."

dupreeh explained why Inferno is always so tough to play against Liquid

As the match turned to Inferno, Astralis had a difficult time converting their 11-5 lead, with Liquid starting to turn it around with a forcebuy win. "We should have probably won the second round as Terrorists, but, unfortunately, I didn't get a kill that was really important," dupreeh told us.

"They started playing the way we have struggled against, they play this really passive way in B and when we go B we think there has to be someone in site, but no they're not, they're using their utility extremely well and they're just really good at retaking. It just puts us in really awkward situations in so many ways. We just can't win against that. They play Inferno in a way that we're not used to and also in a way that other teams aren't doing against us."

Nonetheless, following a fantastic Nuke performance, dupreeh helped close out Inferno, ending the map with 33 kills to secure the series 2-0. "Sometimes when you kill 33 people you get a lot of easier frags and sometimes you get a lot of rotation frags. It's device and Magisk on banana who made some really great entries and that makes my position on the other side of the map a lot easier. I can play off the rotations, I can catch guys who are unaware. But, obviously, killing 33 people is always a good thing. Everything just clicked for me today."

So you would say that astralis would drop down to a tier 2/3 team if Device retired/switched team?

yeah would happen for a while , until they find a player with the same playstyle to fill in his place , their synergy and teamwork is among all the players and if you change someone it would fuck it up

yeah true, but why would astralis sell/kick him when everyone knows how good their teamwork and synergy is. And why would Device even leave when there is no other team like godstralis

Every team “knows how to play against Astralis”, however, when it comes to actually executing, it’s a whole different matter ... Astralis is just better ... - The only chance other teams have, is to “over-perform” ... - and even then it some times isn’t enough ...

There is a limit with what you can do. You may know their strats and how they like to play but if you get flashed or just simply miss your shots all that knowledge is useless.

I've noticed that a lot of the time Astralis plays to the level of their competition, when they face top tier teams they look amazing how they outsmart and outmaneuver the other teams. But some times (emphasis on sometimes) they play down to the same level of not top tier teams and get surprised potentially losing a map or the series because these teams aren't doing what top tier teams would consider the "correct" move, thus catching Astralis off guard and sometimes making them pay for expecting better.

I trust more our fantastic analysts than a pro player insights.
