BIG revamp roster with syrsoN & k1to, gob b becomes Head of CS:GO

BIG have revamped their roster for 2020 with the rumored additions of Florian "⁠syrsoN⁠" Rische and Nils "⁠k1to⁠" Gruhne, while Fatih "⁠gob b⁠" Dayik has replaced Nikola "⁠LEGIJA⁠" Ninić as Head of CS:GO.

The former Sprout duo's addition sees Owen "⁠smooya⁠" Butterfield and Johannes "⁠nex⁠" Maget leave the active lineup, while LEGIJA departs the Berlin-based organization altogether as a result of gob b taking over his former role.

Update: In a Twitlonger post smooya has revealed that his contract with BIG had been terminated.

BIG have stressed that the move is a result of analysis and discussions between team captain Johannes "⁠tabseN⁠" Wodarz and the coaching staff, Tobias "⁠tow b⁠" Herberhold and the new Head of CS:GO, gob b, who has returned to a more active position after hanging up his mouse in August.

BIG confirm the rumors with the signings of syrsoN and k1to

syrsoN and k1to were heavily linked with this move as 2019 was drawing to a close, although they were originally believed to create an all-German lineup as replacements for the Brit and Ismailcan "⁠XANTARES⁠" Dörtkardeş, who retained his spot in the team, after all. In December, both players left Sprout after year and seven-months-long tenures, respectively, and now rejoin their former coach, tow b, under the new banner.

smooya had been playing for BIG since April 2018, sitting half of 2019 on the bench before returning late in the year with little success. nex has been a part of the organization since its creation at the beginning of 2017 as one of the original members, but in 2019 he was in and out of the active roster due to wrist problems.

"It's our ambitious goal to strengthen our team and build a consistent and steadily improving roster, which is able to attack the top ranks in 2020," BIG's CEO, Daniel Finkler, said in a statement.

"Based on the experiences from the past periods, Tobias "tow b" Herberhold, Fatih "gob b" Dayik as well as team captain Johannes "tabseN" Wodarz analyzed all results and performances and decided to change our existing roster to have a fresh start into the new year. We fully support their choices and I am more than happy that we were able to convince syrsoN and acquire k1to. Both players showed their tremendous potential during the last tournament season and kept improving continuously. Welcome to BIG!"

? What my point is? That XANT is actually attending classes so his English improves + actually getting German classes. My point is that Xant moved to Germany for a reason such as having a job in a German company. Another possibility would be spiidi, can play support like tizian and he is an igl so then they would get 2 in 1. Plus he frags same or better than tizian. Wasnt comparing tizian and gtr playstyle in any way.. I always thought the issue with BIG has been too many strong personalities pulling different directions as well as people struggling with communicating in 2nd language. So why kick 1 player with a strong personality, kick one of the few that is docile and does speak more than 1 language, but keep another strong personality that is struggling to speak either English or German? If you kick Smooya you more or less have to kick Xantares or the issues won't be resolved. True. His German is probably better than his English but it is still not good enough for playing the game without the 2nd language issue some people have. Each callout and all coms take a couple of milliseconds too long and he might make some mistakes because of it. Plus: he hasn't looked as good in Big as he did in Space Soldiers

It has been an issue for BIG (and other teams) before, and 3ven 5hough it is better now than before I doubt it is optimal. And I don't really see what Xantares being to the team. His playstyle is far from how the rest of the team play and it is an instrumental clash of philosophies. Not bashing on Xantares, just don't think he is the best option for BIG

Thing is he would probably speak some German now if he had a normal job and was living in a German environment entirely. But this guy plays a PC game all day long and mostly hears "csgo German" and outside of that people probably speak a lot of Turkish with him since some staff of BIG is native Turks and there are many Turks in Berlin generally. That's one of the main issues foreigners have when they come to a new country but have a big population of their own native people already living there. That's just how humans are, you don't really adapt if you don't have a need to do so.

no. you are fooled by his online performances. his real rating is 1.02. Can you achieve something if your key player you added as a potential top5 performer barely reaches an > 1.0 performance? no. he is there because of Nex health and because they invested too much. xantares is like a dropping stock portfolio. there are 2 options: - make a cut and sell now with big losses - stay in the investment and hope that it recovers somehow. BIG stays in the investment because they cant/dont want to carry the loss. e: btw you are an idiot if you think xantares learned german in 1 year while playing csgo in an english speaking team. but language is not the relevant point here. it never was in cs.

If you watched all the games of this lineup you can understand why BIG want to keep xantares over nex, there is no mistery there. Apart from the better rating, he had so much more impact. A lot of rounds were won, because xan delivered what he is actually capable of. And nex, sadly, was a shadow of himself in 2019. This new roster has so much firepower now, the great question is if they mix well together and finally deliver on tactical depth again.
