ESL One Rio Major qualifiers to be played on latest patch

ESL has announced that the open qualifiers for the ESL One Rio Major will be played on the most recent version of the game.

Wednesday's update introduced structural changes to three maps in the Active Duty map pool, with Mirage being the one that was impacted the most. A bench has been placed in mid to allow players to self-boost into window and to peek catwalk, the T-side entrance into mid has been widened and a wallbang spot from palace to the scaffolding corner has been added.

Dust2 and Train were also tweaked in this update, with skyboxes being opened from the B halls towards the site on the former map, and near ivy on the latter.

Players can now self-boost into window on Mirage

The qualifying process for the ESL One Rio Major will begin on Friday in both Europe and North America, two regions that will have four open brackets. In the remaining regions, the race for a Major spot will start in the following days. The complete schedule for the Major qualifiers can be found here.

Nuke now is the least CT-sided it's ever been, yet 15-0 CT halves still happen. Changes like these bring more variety to strats, it's not like this bench is the new 'k1o' sandbags on Vertigo: making this jump, you make noise audible to Connector and Window, plus, I doubt anyone would do that jump without a smoke anyway.

i think the bench is a pretty crucial change because you simply have to pay more attention to window now. it would probably not be that big of a deal if valve wouldnt have pushed it one day before minor quals. i get your sound-argument but its easy to overhear when action is going on.

I feel really bad for the teams that are working hard on strats during past months in order to get in shape for the major qualifiers and then Valve promotes big changes in many maps one day before the qualifier starts... This is totally nonsense. Shame on you Valve

Honestly kinda makes sense. They should have pushed out the changes earlier in the break, but it makes sense to use the latest patch for qualifiers, since that's what the actual major will be played on. Will probably cause some wacky play in the qualifiers, but lets be honest, they're pretty low profile events, so not the end of the world.
