B Site qualifiers announced with $100,000 prize pool

The organisers of B Site have announced the first details about the qualifying process for the league, with $100,000 and spots in the main competition on the line.

The online qualifiers for the brand new B Site league, which is set to compete for eyeballs with the ESL Pro League in 2020, will run from February 5-17 across three regions: Europe, North America and South America.

The European qualifiers will culminate with a 32-team closed stage, featuring 16 teams coming out of the open brackets and 16 invitees. In the two Americas regions, the closed qualifier will have 16 places, distributed equally between invites and open qualifier berths.

Semmler is the spokesperson for B Site

The two best teams from each region will advance to the Global LAN Qualifiers, which will be held at FACEIT's studios in Los Angeles. This stage will determine the last teams entering the B Site league, where they will join the franchise partners, who have paid $2 million each to be part of the project.

To make sure that just about anyone can compete in B Site, the organisers will offer teams who do not have an organisation and manage to qualify for the league a monthly stipend of $25,000 ($5,000 per player) for the duration of the season, which will reportedly kick off in March in Los Angeles.

In addition to spots in B Site, the qualifying process will have $100,000 up for grabs, with more details about how this prize pool will be broken down and the exact number of teams coming through the LAN qualifier expected to be released shortly.

Considering how poorly BLAST Premiere and ESL have started this year with their content and their viewability I guess B site already won the war, no matter what teams they will get. People will rather see t4 CSGO with good analysis than a London City skyline and a timer, or just nothing at all or no info at all as it is with ESL.

Viewers always find their way to the best teams and players, nothing else. Also B site has produced 0 amount of content yet and people take what shill Thorin says as granted. How many LA city views will they give us?

So far this year Blast has had a stream for about 5 hours and drop viewers quicker than a girl drops her knickers in the limo on prom night. ESL still have issues getting casters to know what matches to show, their DHO event was awful. So as long as B site show ANYTHING in-between maps and don't have a hud blocking all gaming visuals for the viewers, they'll be fine. I am surprised to se Semmler, Thorin, Banks, Spunj, Anders and Moses accepting the shit production value that Blast is putting up. Why even pay for some of the best talents in the scene if you don't even give them enough time to read 3 lines of a queue card? I think the viewers want content and not just matches, otherwise the Starladder major would just be people watch Davey or no-majors-club or gotv instead of the official broadcast. But no, they wanted the broadcast to get the extra content. And atm ESL and Blast won't give it to the viewers.

To be honest I am not watching Blast, so cant say what they do. All I say is that B site has shown nothing but Thorins face telling his sales pitch. And viewers want the best teams. B site doesnt have them, blast is missing 2 of them, ESL possibly has them all. Dont see them loosing on the viewer site when B site maps are running in the middle of the night for EU viewers.

I got some friends and social media followers mad at me for bashing Blast all 2018, 2019 and into 2020 and when they changed format and hired great talent I thought I would give them a 2nd chance. They didn't deserve it. The broadcast started 1h-45m before map started but there wasn't anything before it was 27 minutes until the match started. Most of it was puns and catching up with the casters. James Banks had about 1.30m before the match started. When it finally started the hid looked like it was made for Overwatch blocking the whole screen. After first match it was about 2h until 2nd match. Instead of letting Semmler, Anders, Moses, Spunj, Thorin and Banks do what they do best, they just put up a "we'll be back later" screen and music. When it was 1. 30h left before Liquid vs MIBR they put on a timer for 1h. It is one of the worst productions I've ever seen. They had all the ingredients to do a great broadcast, but chose to do a horrible one. They dropped from 137k viewers early in map one, to less than 20k viewers when 2nd match was about to start. ESL have so far, in 2020 been awful att spreading information to their viewers and their on-broadcast staff. So you usually start their streams with casters, talents and viewers being irritated before the teams even start to do the map picking. So unless they fix that before Kato the viewers will leave ESL no matter teams. Bsite just needs teams with fans, prospects or potential and they will win this war without even having to put up a fight. Just letting Thorin both be on cam and set the timer will be enough, whether or not the viewers like him

Blast peaked at 137k viewers during first map of NiP vs Faze when parts of Europe and all of NA had office hours During prime broadcast time in MIBR vs Liquid they got 59k viewers. Sure Gaules took a lot of the BR viewers since MIBR play, but still quite a big drop

I think that during the later stages of B-site they will have more viewers. If Blast dropped 90k viewers between matches, where would they go if they at the same time will have a desk segment of T1 talents talking about deeper analysis of csgo. When that analysis is done and a match starts, do you think they will stay with the broadcast caring about the viewer experience or do you think they change back to a shit show just because it shows Faze vs MIBR? Currently C9 is ranked 17yh in the world avd have beaten MIBR and CoL this year. They also got an avg age of 20.9 while having one of the largest fan bases in esports. Bsite have already won thanks to ESL and Blast. It will start with just the team and talent fans and some csgo aficionados in B-site, but before the summer break they will have won

Your mistake is you think Blast is indicative of ESL, Blast still has a lot of bad rep in the CSGO community. I'm sure there are still some that don't even know they have changed their format. Not everyone cares about what the analysis' have to say, I know I rarely do, especially if it's Thorin, SpunJ or pimp. It's funny seeing you trying to hype up C9, as if anyone really cares about them. How many fans does Diginitas and Mad Lions have? Are they some of the biggest in the world too? They way you're hyping up b site I'm starting to think you work for them.

No I think Blast is for Blast and the DH debacle and the iem katowice quals issues and the Rio open qualifiers shit show is for ESL. So far ESL and Blast are the only two ones who have had real events so far and all of it has been amateur hour. You say people just want to watch the best CS yet Faze vs NiP had more viewers than Liquid vs MIBR have. Even though Liquid ad MIBR got more fans and is a better match (result wise). So why do you watch ESL broadcast instead of GOTV? I don't think that MAD lions and Dignitas will bring in the viewers who know how to converse about CSGO. That will make the chat smarter than just chat bots and meme machines which also will drive viewers to the streams. People will slowly leave shit broadcasts with good teams to come to good broadcasts with lesser teams. Not to mention all the neutral viewers that wanna see Dignitas and MAD Lions for the nostalgia and underdog hype. I wish I was paid by anyone. But I am not so my hype is just out of being tired of two of the biggest TOs fucking up with a game I love.

I guess this is where we disagree, I think b site's way of buying into the league Overwatch style is a cancer. It stops a lot of teams of ever entering and then you add their crazy fines for not staying in the top of hltv rankings. I hope that style of league crashes and burns honestly.

I thought so to but I have revised my thoughts after keep hearing from all sources how everyone except for the players lose money in a business that generates too much money for this to happen. A new approach is needed Before today I thought B site would fail but that the project would be positive for how the scene would develop and for the economic system in CSGO. But watching today's broadcasts and trying to work as a journalist just to find the brackets to the quals for ESL Rio before the 2nd round started, as well as watching the cancerous Blast Premier Twitch stream.

A new approach might be needed but b site is not the answer. A buy in league is no guarantee for orgs to make money it just means it's much harder for smaller teams to entering. And it stops players who wants to start their own teams because they'll lack cash (or there might not be any open spots, it basically means money > team skill). Just look at the Overwatch league not something I want copied in csgo. Mind telling me what you find cancerous about the Blast stream?

yeah, but all the invested parties into B-site has either already lost money on the mistakes of OWL or been against OWL heavily, so I doubt they'll make the same mistakes. As I said: I thought the format would fail, but with how american marketing works and how ESL and Blast and other semi-huge competition work I think B-site will produce enough value to finally bring in money to the TO's and orgs. Plus the invested money meen that the orgs will have higher risks and more at stake and therefore will do more to succeed. Add to that: Even if they fail and will be bad for the parties that go into B-site, I think enough lessons will be learned to drive the CSGO scene forward. OWL didn't have real competitors which B-site has. So B-site will have to do better than OWL thought they needed to. Plus: The CSGO community isn't like the OW community. We call people out on their shit. Their HUD took up about 60% of the view so the viewers couldn't see anything of the match, the coloring and the overly done x-ray outlining made it look more like a happy kids game than an esports game. They didn't let the Talent have time to do what they do best and they didn't utilize all the tools they had. It could've been a great broadcast but to me it was so bad that I turned it off after first match and just tuned in to get screen shots of the bad quality of the stream when it wasn't a match.

I can get it would help the Phone users but it still take away too much from the gameplay so you can't really follow what happens on screen. Perhaps they can do one stream for Mobile users and another for PC users? A different discussion though. Plus: How many watch on the phone and how many watch from a real screen?

So definitely B Site will only feature tier 2 teams at most. If the majority of the supposed ESL teams confirm they will stay with ESL, there's pretty much only tier 3 or worse teams to play at B Site. However, the incentive for orgless teams to play there is really nice. 5k dollars a month for orgless players is a lot of cash. Maybe it will be a nice place to breed new teams, but not for top notch teams to play

We dont know. Might be less. The first rumors were 12 teams. Then it was 10 buy in teams and 2 qualifiers. Later someone said b site first season has 10-12 teams. And now they have not said anything about how many teams move from the offline qualifier to the league. So the amount of more buy in teams might be between 5 (12 league slots and 1 qualification slot) and 0 (10 league slots, 4 qualification slots)

It sounds like an excellent new take on CSGO competition. Qualification trough EU :) sure, it won't be effortless. 2M buy-in, ok price, I hope rev share is better than 250k what other exclusive leagues and events organizers are offering. Subsidy for players without an org is a great PR move, i don't believe any orgles team can qualify trough the EU, or it would be a miracle. Can't wait for this to start, i hope they learn from their mistakes, iterate and continue doing better for a long time.

Cool they give teams a chance, even if they do not have the money, too bad though that minor qualies are same time in most cases but I suppose they are kinda in hurry to get these qualies done at this point so seems actually impossible to avoid it anymore, best thing would have been to hold some of them before minor qualifiers I suppose but that naturally is simply too late now xd
