Plopski signs three-year contract extension with NiP

Nicolas "⁠Plopski⁠" Gonzalez Zamora has signed a new contract that will keep him on Ninjas in Pyjamas through 2023, the Swedish organisation announced on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old has committed his future to the Ninjas just eight months after being signed from Ancient as a replacement for Dennis "⁠dennis⁠" Edman.

Plopski has inked a new contract until 2023

He earned rave reviews for his 2019 LAN performances with the team (1.07 rating), with Ludvig "⁠Brollan⁠" Brolin, Nicolai "⁠device⁠" Reedtz and Mathieu "⁠ZywOo⁠" Herbaut all predicting him to make the top 20 player of the year ranking in 2020.

"I am looking forward to continuing the journey with this amazing team," Plopski said in a statement. "I’ve learned a lot during my time as a Ninja, and 2020 is when I want to step up and play to my full potential.

"With a solid line-up, we have what it takes to become champions."

Ninjas in Pyjamas played last week their first tournament of 2020, BLAST Premier Spring Series, where they placed third in Group A following defeats to FaZe and Liquid, and a solitary victory over MIBR.

The Swedish team, who are currently ranked 12th in the world, will return to action at the end of the month at IEM Katowice before taking part in the closed qualifier for the Europe Minor, in early March.

Expected and good for NiP, not sure for plopski tho thats a long contract if you get benched at some point.

If he is that bad that no team wants to buy him and he isn't even good enough to be in Nip, then he isn't really in his "prime". Also it's not like NiP would want to have a benched player for years, it would be very costly. They will want to sell him as soon as possible, so the price wouldn't be insane. Why do you assume he would get 50% of the salary? That obv depends on what the contract says. (50% of a nip salary is still a fat salary for doing nothing)

Lekro, Plopski, Rez all trash? Rez had a bit of a slump recently but that a great performance against Liquid. Twist is average and naawk is still getting used to NiP but his showing was good so far. The organisations wants to sign long contracts to keep talents from being snatched by other teams, and player wants to sign long contracts since it's pretty much always guarantees a good deal for them, economically. If plopski believes in the team, it's not a strange move from his part.

I understand this. The player wants the money for 3 years incase he sucks after 6-12 months. But he is young. Chances are he is going to improve his value in the next 12 months and could have gotten a bigger contract next year. NiP should have learned by now nothing is guaranteed and that players and turn to shit then you are left with a bad contract on your hands you can't get out of. For them they are getting a young player I guess on a much cheaper contract they would most likely get in 12 months.

My guess is that NiP made a pretty good deal with this contract. Plopski get a raise in salary, that he's guaranteed for 3 years as long as he's not on the bench, and NiP sees a great opportunity to lock down a player that they believe are going to grow and continue to increase his value within a foreseeable future. It's an investment from NiP, and it's very rare for an investment to be a sure thing. I think it's a good move from both NiP and plopski, I'd say he and REZ are the most promising young talents in Sweden together with Brollan.
