SteelSeries today introduce a new product to their already wide product-line.
It has not been long since the last SteelSeries product got announced, but that does not stop SteelSeries from announcing yet another new product. This time around it is a new headset, to be more precise, the new Siberia v2 Full-size Headset. The headset is a follow up on the popular Siberia headset launched in 2004, used by the professional gaming community as well as professional musicians.
It has been five years since Siberia hit the streets for the first time, what has happened to Siberia v2, comparing it to its predecessor. First major change would be the "invisible" retractable microphone system that pulls out from the left ear-cup. The headset also have increased 50mm speakers ,which in a new closed ear-cup design, which features thick leather padded cushions, will increase outside noise isolation.
Specifications of the SteelSeries Siberia v2 Full-size Headset includes:
The headset remains lightweight, even with its latest additions. The volume regulator, the cord and its base have also been upgraded. The primary cord is shorter in length for optimized use with portable gear, but comes with an additional extra cord for use with stationary computers. Siberia v2 will be offered in two version, with and without USB soundcard. SteelSeries Siberia v2 Full-size Headset will be available in black and white editions and will be available all over the world in November 2009.
You will later this month be able to get your hands of a copy of this brand new SteelSeries Siberia v2 Full-size headset, so stay tuned for guidance how you can participate.
Went to the SteelSeries headquarters earlier this week to get a look on this new headset. I have to tell you guys, if you liked the first Siberia, then you are going to love Siberia v2.

i really like these changes, as the siberias were awesome headsets bar 3 problems:
1. the detatchable mic on the original was awkward and crappy (fixed on v2 with new retractable built-in mic)
2. the headset was, imo, uncomfortable after long use (fixed on v2 with softer, larger, leather earcups)
3. the originals were very flimsy and easily breakable (the top/headband part mainly - unfortunately NOT fixed on this v2)
All in all, very good improvements imo, with added slight improvements in mic quality / sound quality / added noise cancellation - looks good!

They just changed the stuff that most of their consumers complained about. It's the same thing they did to 5H (5Hv2). The biggest problem I have with my Siberia are the long and many cords, and now they fixed that.

ive been lookin around for my next pair of headsets for a while, and these look really nice. currently i have white siberias that are 3 years old and i definitely need some new ones soon. I really like that they made it leather and a little more sound proof.
I wonder if it'll be simple to still use my mic that is on top of my monitor instead of the headset one, and if ill still be able to use my usb sound card im currently using.
Still gotta decide between this, 5hv2 and HD555 (maybe PC350 too if they are cheap enough)
I know the pros and cons of each :p

so did steel series buy out icemat? i thought icemat made the siberia headphones. i had a pair of the icemat siberias, they sucked!
"used by professional musicians," YEA RIGHT LOLOL. These don't even come close to lower level studio headphones. good for gaming, horrible for music.
hopefully v2 is better. it's a start with lether ear cups and bigger drivers.

Also Basshunter which is/was majorly popular in Scandinavia and UK used the Siberia in several videos. Here's a behind the scenes on his "Now you're gone" single that went straight to #1 UK Singles Chart:

Perhaps they look cool for music videos, they are quite flashy, but the sound quality you get from them are quite low on the professional level. Trust me, I am a professional film and video editor and need good headphones. I myself, own a pair of Icemat Siberias and would NOT even use them for gaming because the quality is so horrible.
No respectable DJ would use this at a concert/show or in a studio.
btw: LOL @ Nik & Jay...that music is....innnnteresting...
