CIS Minor closed qualifier team list finalised

The team list for the closed qualifier for the CIS Minor has been decided following the conclusion of the fourth open bracket.

The team count for the CIS Minor closed qualifier reached its 16-team capacity on Saturday after SG.pro and SpeedRunners came through the final bracket. The previous tournaments had seen Espada, Nemiga, 1win, Unique, eL'quvet and fbg successfully battle their way through the grueling open brackets.

Nemiga are the highest-ranked side to qualify for the closed qualifier

The eight teams who topped the open qualifiers will face an even tougher task in the next stage of qualification for the Rio Major as they will join eight invited sides in a closed bracket, headlined by regional heavy hitters FORZE and Spirit.

The completed participants' list for the closed qualifier looks as follows:

The qualifier will take place from March 5-6 and will see 16 teams compete in a best-of-three, double-elimination bracket for eight spots at the CIS Minor, from which the top two will earn places in the ESL One Rio Major's New Challengers Stage.

When the CIS closed qualifier has bigger names than the NA closed qualifier

Yeah and EG is dogshit for a T1 team. That's the reason I added the somehow. Not trying to defend NA teams lol. Liquid, C9, and coL are the only teams that show potential, and Liquid probably wont hit a peak like they did

I‘m pretty sure it’s a valve ruling that you have to play the EU quals for a major when the majority of your players are from the EU Otherwise every T2 EU org could move to NA and get easy spots instead of struggling to get through a stacked qualifier ESL might handle that otherwise so they were able to play NA Kato quals e.g.

Then why do SA teams play in the NA open qualifiers? Why did Bravado play the NA qualifiers? Valve let's teams play in whatever minor based on location.

They chose to because it was an easier qualification slot. If you look a lot of Brazilian teams started doing that like INTZ.

OK, I tried to make it easy with a little hint for you, but let's go with rulebook instead then. I don't think that you will click on the link, so I copied rules that are covering this exact situation. cdn.eslgaming.com/misc/media/lo/csgo-maj.. 2.7.3 Home Country/Region A team players home country is the country where they hold a valid passport from. If a player holds passports from more than one country, they have to inform the tournament administration about which of them they will be using for this competition. This decision will be final and irreversible for the ESL One Rio CSGO Major 2020 and its qualifiers. The home region is the region that this country belongs to (see List of countries/territories and their assigned ESL One Rio CSGO Major 2020 regions). For a team, this is determined by the majority of the used line-ups. If there is no such majority, a team may have no home country or even no home region. In that case, the team cannot take part in qualifiers restricted to a country or region without prior approval from tournament administration 2.7.5 Country/Region/Sub-Region of Qualifiers Qualifiers for ESL One Rio CSGO Major 2020, including invitations, are usually restricted to a country, a region or a sub-region. Teams can request to participate in a different sub-region that is part of their home sub-region, if they can provide ESL validation for their request. Examples for such reasons are: i) There are no qualifiers in the home sub-region(s) for the team and the team is willing to travel to the sub-region of the qualifier to play it. ii) The team is taking part in (a) competition(s) in a sub-region other than their home sub-region and has matches to play there before and after and in such close timely proximity to the qualifier(s) in their home region(s) that traveling back for that qualifier(s) would be unreasonable. iii) The team is staying in another sub-region for good reason (esports-related) for a prolonged time that spans over the time of the qualifier for their home sub-region and it can be clearly shown that this condition has not been created to be able to take part in a qualifier that might be easier to qualify from. If an exception is granted, the respective sub-region will be considered a team's new home sub-region for the entire event or (if that happens before the end of the event) until the conditions for the exception expire. 2.7.5 sounds similar to what you trying to say, except one thing earlier in the rulebook. 1.4 Region For the ESL One Rio CSGO Major 2020, the world is divided into four main regions which are as follows: • Americas (sub-regions: North America, South America) (I don't see EU here if you state that coL can go through EU because of Blast while being an NA based team. And 2.7.5 says nothing about exceptions of changing region, only subregion) • Asia (sub-regions: Middle East, Southeast Asia, Oceania, Greater China, East Asia) • Europe (no sub-regions) • CIS (no sub-regions) The regions can be further divided into sub-regions for qualifiers or invitations, as ESL sees fit. For a list of all countries and their assigned region, see 8.1.

Even using the rulebook, coL could still hypothetically play within the NA qualifier as currently all 3 European members hold NA passports for either work or sports visas.

And since when visas grant you passport of another country? Would like a link or even some kind US law about that to read, since I'm not from US and never was in US, so I know nothing about your immigration laws. But somehow my friend who was in US by work&travel program could work there and didn't have a US passport. But maybe w&t is an exception but I would like to see some proofs to that.

Certain visas give temporary passports. I tried finding the pdf I've seen on it and I was unable. The law may have changed on this but certain sports visas granted temporary immigration passports for cross country travel as many visas keep you in specific areas in case of overstaying your allotted time

That's it nationality, coL lives in NA. SK was a brazilian team, but they played in NA, same for 100T, and FURIA They represent their home country, but play out of that region, therefore they are an NA team

But that only makes the org NA. The team itself isn't. The team can be EU based but play and live in NA as the org is based there. That doesn't make the team NA. So yes, CoL is a NA org, but a EU team.

Then why do they receive NA recognition? Why do they play NA qualifiers with the exception of Rio because of BLAST? It's based around where a team is playing from, hence why brazilians in NA are seen in NA qualifiers, not SA. They are an NA team with a majority EU nationality.

The location of the team doesn't determine where it's from. It's an EU team based in NA. Simple as that. Same as fnatic being UK based yet being Swedish. But when you call the team "NA" or "EU" you must look at the roster not where the team is playing. Surely every single team from Europe could move to China rn and play Chinese qualifiers? Are all of the teams Chinese now or what? You are basing the nationality of the team of the location, that is incorrect tho.

There are differences from the fnatic sample. Fnatic live and play both in EU and Sweden specifically. Does poizon play from Bulgaria? Do k0nfig and blame play from Denmark? No they dont. They reside in the united states, thus meaning they play for NA. They are apart of our scene until they either retire or return to EU. If all teams where to move to China, I'd say the same things. They are whatever nationality based team, but are playing from china, thus they are an asian team based on location.
