HAVU beat LDLC to win ASUS ROG Winter 2020

HAVU lifted the ASUS ROG Winter 2020 trophy on home soil, in Helsinki, after beating LDLC in a two-map grand final.

HAVU had a shaky start at ASUS ROG Winter 2020, suffering a loss to Elias "Jamppi" Olkkonen’s KYNYNIEKAT in the opening best-of-one, although they managed to turn it around and eventually lifted the hardware in Helsinki.

Following their early loss, HAVU missed LDLC despite being in the same group as they went through different sides of the bracket. Eetu "sAw" Saha and company beat KOVA in the losers’ match before taking revenge on Jamppi’s side while the Frenchmen won both opening and winners' matches against KOVA and KYNYNIEKAT, keeping their clean record through the semi-finals where they won 2-0 against SJ. On the other side of the tournament tree, HAVU beat the Bulgarians of FATE before going on to take out LDLC in the final.

HAVU were crowned champions in Helsinki despite a rocky start

LDLC won the pistol round on the defending side of Train, HAVU’s pick, but were quick to give up the lead against the following forcebuy. The Finns took control of the situation early on with a 5-2 lead and although LDLC were able to get back on top, HAVU managed two more rounds on the attacking side to make it an extremely close 7-8 with Lasse "ZOREE" Uronen leading the scoreboard with a stellar display.

On the CT side the home team shut it down, winning the second pistol and put themselves in the driver’s seat as LDLC kept running into a wall round after round and were only able to win a one, when down 8-15, before HAVU took the lead in the series, 16-9.

Dust2 started in similar fashion to Train, with LDLC winning the first pistol round and HAVU winning the follow-up, although this time the Frenchmen were on the CT side. The Finns got three in a row, but LDLC showed superiority on the attacking side, linking six of their own before being contested. Doubles by Joonas "doto" Forss and ZOREE gave HAVU another clean round, which they followed up to get within striking distance, 5-6, before eventually closing out the half in ahead, 8-7.

LDLC successfully retook the B site in a 4vs3 situation in the second pistol round to tie it back up as the two teams went neck-and-neck. It was the Finns who hit series point first when, up 14-13, Aaro "hoody" Peltokangas and doto got entries on the A site to clear the way. HAVU then won the last round of the tournament making the final score 16-13 to secure the title.

Hey. give some credit to LDLC. All teams must start somewhere because not all teams are backed up orgs like OG who can buy their place in tier-1 tournaments right away. Havu didn't have their best play during that weekend, but they deserved to win. At the same time LDLC deserves credit for putting up a good fight. They died but they did it wearing their boots just like General Custer.

I don't know how LOGAN is still picked up by these teams. He's been underwhelming for such a long time now. Why LDLC didnt pick Davidp, devoduvek, hadji, sixer & a promising last like fearoth ?
