FunPlus Phoenix to expand into CS:GO with Heroic roster - Report

League of Legends world champion FunPlus Phoenix have expanded into CS:GO with the signing of the HEROIC roster, according to a report from 1pv.fr.

The Beijing-based organisation secured the services of the Danish team after agreeing to enter Flashpoint as the eighth franchise partner of the league, which is scheduled to start on Friday.

Founded in 2017, FunPlus Phoenix rose to prominence last year as their League of Legends team lifted the World Championship title in Paris after sweeping G2 3-0 in the grand final. The Chinese organisation also field teams in PUBG and Fortnite.

Heroic's roster will play under FunPlus Phoenix

HEROIC's roster has been inside the top 15 in the world rankings since January but has struggled to find its best form of late. The team finished 7th-8th at the ICE Challenge and failed to qualify for the Europe Minor after losing to Heretics and Copenhagen Flames in the closed qualifier.

With the team moving to FunPlus Phoenix and transitioning into Flashpoint, it is currently unclear what will happen to HEROIC's spot in ESL Pro League. They have been placed in Group B, alongside Complexity, fnatic, FORZE, FURIA and Natus Vincere, and are scheduled to play their first game on March 17.

They won Worlds in League in November. They're not one of the biggest chinese orgs necessarily, but I can guarantee you they have more funding than most top 10 teams. Tbh a single star player in a Chinese league team earns as much as most entire rosters from top 10 CSGO teams combined nowadays...

Most top teams would not just sell their team... also there's little to no reason for a team to buy a full top roster. More often than not, the team falls off under the different structure and management and they have to change many players. Heroic is a stable, good team, been top 20 for many years and they can build off it in the future. Sometimes all a tier 2 team needs is the proper funding and structure from an org to become tier 1.

Cause a team like heroic probably didnt cost them that much. And they can get their invested money back faster. Heroic is always a team that could win lans like v4 future etc.. if they wanted to buy liquid or 100t roster they would have to spend tons of money. And it is not guaranteed those lineups would stay together for a long time, which would result in bad results or eventually full line up falling apart. Then they would lose more money than if heroic line up would fall apart

ESL has better teams, in Flashpoint they'd have more chance to win. Plus Flashpoint supposedly will have better viewer-experience, so it'll be easier to advertise. So for large orgs with a not-quite-top-team Flashpoint is definitely the better option.
