MIBR defeat Gen.G to secure Flashpoint Phase 1 Group B grand final berth

MIBR secured a shot at topping Flashpoint Phase 1 Group B in the grand final after defeating Gen.G in two maps, Inferno (16-11) and Mirage (16-13), in the consolidation final.

MIBR turned a slow start in Flashpoint's Phase 1 around and managed to qualify for the Group B grand final after defeating Gen.G, the pool's high seed, in the lower bracket. The final match in the bracket will be a rematch against Chaos, who they lost to in the opener giving up both maps in the series.

Three back-and-forth rounds turned into an uphill battle for MIBR on the CT side of Inferno as they struggled to make an early impact with a shot economy, but a successful A defense with a double by Ignacio "⁠meyern⁠" Meyer in pit followed by a triple from Gabriel "⁠FalleN⁠" Toledo holding B brought it back to 3-5. With a tie on the scoreboard two rounds later, Sam "⁠s0m⁠" Oh denied MIBR the lead with four kills, two before the plant and two while defending the retake, to keep Gen.G in the lead.

MIBR tied the match back up, 8-8, winning the second pistol round on the attack before taking the lead for the first time in the map. With 11-11 on the board, meyern had a heroic play with three kills to keep the South American squad in the lead going into the homestretch on Inferno. Following it up with a scrappy take on A, MIBR then secured the series lead on Gen.G’s pick, 16-11.

Two kills by meyern assured MIBR could plant on B in a 3vs3 situation, but a clean retake by Gen.G gave the North Americans the early lead. A force win by the majority Brazilian side ended up in a 3-1 lead for them before the first gun round. A mirror of the first map ocurred, but this time it was MIBR up 5-1 before Gen.G could bring it back to 3-5. A quad-kill with a 1vs2 clutch by Epitacio "⁠TACO⁠" de Melo put his team up 7-5, but they were unable to win the half, losing the last three rounds of the half to make it 7-8.

Gen.G won another pistol round and lost against another forcebuy, and it wasn’t until the first gun round that Timothy "⁠autimatic⁠" Ta was able to deny meyern and FalleN a retake to tie it up, 10-10. Gen.G were working their way up from an 11-14 deficit, but a nightmarish A execute against an eco gave MIBR a match point that would get converted the following round to end the series then and there.
