Gen.G beat Dignitas in Flashpoint Phase 2 opener

Gen.G defeated Dignitas in their Phase 2 opening match after winning Train, 16-14, and Nuke, 16-12, to send the European squad to the lower bracket.

Gen.G and Dignitas opened their Flashpoint Phase 1 runs with underwhelming third-place finishes in groups B and C, respectively, making them direct competitors in Phase 2 as both currently stand in 7-9th place with 30 points each. In their Phase 2 upper bracket semi-final opener, it was Gen.G who came out on top, but Dignitas will have one more chance to turn things around through the lower bracket as the group stage progresses.

Kenneth "⁠koosta⁠" Suen got a triple kill on the first pistol round of Train, allowing Gen.G to take a 3-0 lead on the attacking side. An AWP triple by Ladislav "⁠GuardiaN⁠" Kovács in the first gun round kept Dignitas in the game, especially as they went on to tie it up early on, 3-3, but the North American squad won two 4vs5 situations despite opening AWP kills by GuardiaN to run away with a 7-3 lead. Finally, Gen.G took a double digit lead, 10-5, before switching to the CT side.

A triple by Christopher "⁠GeT_RiGhT⁠" Alesund put Dignitas on the comeback path as they brought it back to 8-10 ahead of the first gun round. Despite making it to 9-10, quick doubles in succession by Sam "⁠s0m⁠" Oh and Hansel "⁠BnTeT⁠" Ferdinand with saved M4s shifted the half’s momentum as Gen.G went on to take match point. It seemed to be smooth sailing for the North American squad, but Dignitas made a final push all the way to the thirtieth round before giving up the first map, 14-16.

Gen.G took a 2-0 lead on the defending side of Nuke, and although heaps of map control gave Dignitas a 3vs2 plant on B, the European squad was unable to close out the round as Damian "⁠daps⁠" Steele ninja defused against Richard "⁠Xizt⁠" Landström. Still able to buy on the fourth round, Dignitas went on to get on the board as GeT_RiGhT downed three before doubling up after a successful B play.

With 4-4 on the board, Xizt had another unfortunate round as BnTeT, wielding a USP, managed to stall the Swede long enough to make the timer run out without the bomb being planted. Big rounds by BnTeT brought Gen.G to a 9-4 lead before Dignitas closed the half out 6-9.

Three opening kills on A by Patrik "⁠f0rest⁠" Lindberg finished off by GeT_RiGhT with a double. The first gun round equalized the scoreboard thanks to a 1vs2 afterplant clutch by GuardiaN on B. Tied 12-12, both teams went neck-and neck into the last stretch of the map, but Gen.G traded well and outplayed the defense and claimed the remaining four rounds to seal the deal, 16-12.
