OG beat fnatic to pick up first victory in ESL Pro League Stage 2

OG bested fnatic 2-1 (Inferno 12-16, Mirage 19-15, Dust2 16-13) to keep themselves in the race for spot in the final of ESL Pro League Season 11 Europe.

The European mixture found a lifeline in the tournament by picking up their first points in this stage of the league. After sustaining losses to MOUZ and Natus Vincere in their first two matches, OG bounced back with a stunning victory over joint group leaders fnatic, who will see either MOUZ or Natus Vincere move to the summit later today.

As for the outcome of the series, initially it seemed that OG were uninspired, losing out their map pick, Inferno. Mirage almost went the same way, but a flawless performance in overtime ensured a third map, where a solid T side showing set OG up for success.

valde spearheaded OG's comeback with a 1.14 series rating

The series commenced on Inferno, where fnatic got hold of the pistol round, but a bomb plant for OG meant a momentum swing straight afterward. Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen's performance in the following rounds made for a three-round lead, but fnatic reassumed control of proceedings once their economy was stabilised. The majority of the half was dominated by the CTs, highlighted by an ace from Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson, who contributed to a 9-6 initial half. The second pistol round went to OG, and, contrary to their opponents, they managed to produce an early string of round successes. fnatic retaliated in kind, and after conceding an identical stretch of rounds, the Swedes finally brought their opponents' map pick home with a 16-12 scoreline.

fnatic got off on the right foot on Mirage, assuming an immediate lead on the T side off the back of a spectacular pistol ace from repeat offender, KRIMZ. This allowed the Swedes to snowball well into the middle portion of the half at 7-1, painting a rather bleak picture for Aleksib and company. Despite the mounting deficit, OG managed to salvage the situation by flipping the table in the remaining rounds, softening the blow to 6-9 before half time. Another successful pistol campaign put fnatic on double digits, and despite a second-round upset, the Swedes furthered their lead.

Similarly to the previous half, OG managed to claw their way back into the match, meeting fnatic at 14 rounds apiece, and even surpassed them, achieving map point. The opportunity to close out the game was squandered by the international mix, who remained composed and cruised to a 19-15 victory.

Dust2 would settle the series, and in fitting nature for a third map, it was keenly contested from the outset. A pistol round victory set fnatic up for a 3-0 lead, but OG caught up once they had money in the bank. Mateusz "mantuu" Wilczewski's individual performance heavily impacted the outcome of the first half, as his team walked away with a 9-6 T half. The second pistol was OG's for the taking, as were the ensuing two rounds, placing the CTs in a comfortable position. A quad kill from Nathan "NBK-" Schmitt put OG two rounds short of series closure, and after some pushback from fnatic, the international squad managed to lock down the map.

Fnatic basically threw mirage by unnecessarily showing aggression even when they were in a 5v3 on ct side. They let OG make come back

Aleksib is a tactical genius. He is best known for his signature tactic "going B, but then going A". He also has a second little known tactic of "going A, but losing their own map pick and winning the bo3". What an absolute legend. Top 3 IGL for sure.
