FG, EG.us & HR win WCG qualifiers

FireGamers and Evil Geniuses came from behind to win their respective WCG qualifiers, in a very busy weekend.

In Brazil, FireGamers joined mibr in the Grand Final after a very close 16-14 win over playArt in the Consolidation Final, but proved they were anything but out of the discussion for a spot in Chengdu as they secured a 2-1 win.

On de_train, mibr made little use of the advantage of starting as CT, as they could not get more than eight rounds. Although FG did not fare much better in defensive affairs, some good play in the last rounds saw them take a late 16-14 win to restore parity in the tie.

The next map was de_inferno, where FG were simply too hot to handle, with Lincoln "fnx" Lau returning to his old form as he helped his side take an 11-4 lead at the break. In the second half, FG confirmed their good moment as they took the necessary five rounds to leave mibr in despair.

Broken tag

In the United States, Evil Geniuses too came from the Lower Bracket to win the WCG qualifier. Playing with a stand-in, Travis "tuBBy" Bechtol, instead of Finnish veteran Tomi "lurppis" Kovanen, it looked like this would go down to Turmoil after they won the first half of de_inferno 11-4. However, EG pulled off an impressive comeback to win the map 16-14.

On de_nuke, EG started better as they strolled to a 12-3 result at half time. The former Gravitas team then responded in the second half, but it was too much to come back from, as EG would get their fourth round to win it 16-13.

Evil Geniuses have secured paid travel and accomodation to the WCG Finals, while Turmoil have been given direct entry into the competition, but will have to support all the costs themselves.

Broken tag

Elsewhere, HellRaisers won the Ukrainian WCG qualifier following an intense 2-1 win over Amazing Gaming. After winning CGL IV last weekend, A-Gaming were the big favourites here, but they were unable to move past KerchNET this time around.

After winning de_train 19:17 in overtime, HellRaisers lost 16-13 on de_inferno. A-Gaming could not find themselves on de_tuscan, as HellRaisers came out 16-4 winners to emerge victorious in the qualifier.

MIRAA, you must be going nuts covering 3 qualifiers simultaneously :P. Take your time, just please make sure you upload POV's for fnx/FalleN/nak/cogu for WCG Brazil, and fRoD/n0thing for WCG USA, if possible (as in if there were any recorded). Btw, you're doing a great job!

But EG and coL encounted with each other in the loser bracket, so only one of them. A pity for coL, but to say frankly, coL's defendence is bad at dust2 and train. They have tried their best, but they are lack of Competition Experience. If they take part in more Competitions, they will succeed

"Evil Geniuses have secured paid travel and accomodation to the WCG Finals, while Turmoil have been given direct entry into the competition, but will have to support all the costs themselves." Does that go for AG and MiBR as well? Or is only one team allowed in the competition from those countries? Also, good work on the coverage MIRAA and the rest involved, thanks.

yes, they do but they'll only go to china if they pay all by themselves. So they have to be well placed at the EM's arround the world to make some money. Because the organization wont pay for them go to a event to lose.

it looked like on inferno, FG "knew" what cogu would do almost every round as CT. cogu is an amazing entryfragger with his AWP, and that fuck's up a lot of teams tactics. but FG managed to avoid cogu's position almost every round, giving them a better chance(imo) to take over the sites. that made cogu's job harder, since he had to re-take the sites almost every round. he is probably the source to MiBR's style of playing. looked like they knew exactly where he would go every round. so IMO, tactical win by FG

They lost 16-6 at inferno earlier in the tournament, they probably learned a lesson. :)

Yes I know it's expensive, my point was just that you don't buy a spot and pay to WCG or something, you just don't get any help getting to Chengdu. :)

so happy for fg,especially after mibr tried to destroy the lineup by taking bit in,having said that,fg played a grudge match vs mibr and maybe isnt even better than mibr, just had bigger motive :D

Wow both Edward AND markeloff are in HR? I had no idea o_o, those two are insane! Definitely gonna watch their matches at the finals. It'd be nice if they also had Zeus in the line-up though :(.

C'mon you guys. I agree that fallen was really great at this tournament. But don't start to compare him to a legend like cogu, cogu had to shine for years at mibr to be considered what he is, and you guys say fallen is better than him because of the weekend? LOL
