NiP join Astralis in Road to Rio upper semis; four Group A teams still in the running

Ninjas in Pyjamas have joined Astralis in the upper bracket semi-finals of ESL One: Road to Rio - Europe after guaranteeing a top-two finish in Group A.

The Swedish side has enjoyed tremendous success in the Road to Rio group stage, locking down their fifth win on Wednesday after beating Heretics in a rescheduled deciding map of the three-map series.

With the victory, Ninjas in Pyjamas guaranteed themselves a direct ticket to the upper bracket ahead of their last match against fnatic, which could see them secure the top spot in case they win the domestic matchup and Astralis — the only team to beat Jonas "⁠Lekr0⁠" Olofsson and company so far — lose to ENCE.

NiP are safely through to the upper bracket

The remainder of the group is still very much up in the air. The third-fourth spot, which will award places in the playoffs' lower bracket, is currently contested between four teams: fnatic, Heretics, ENCE, and Vitality.

The quartet is sitting on a 3-3 record ahead of the last round of matches, which will take place concurrently on Saturday, May 9th at 18:30 , while Dignitas and Complexity are out of the running with just one victory in six matches before their head-to-head matchup.

The following three matches will determine the two teams advancing to the lower bracket from Group A on Saturday:

Vitality vs. Heretics
ENCE vs. Astralis
fnatic vs. Ninjas in Pyjamas
