EG take down Gen.G to book last BLAST Premier Americas Finals spot
The North American giants will join Liquid, MIBR and FURIA in the $250,000 tournament, which will kick off on June 15.
Evil Geniuses have advanced to the four-team Americas Finals of BLAST Premier after beating Gen.G in the third-place decider. The North American derby ended up being a one-sided affair as EG, who had lost to MIBR in a keenly-contested match on Saturday, dominated large stretches of the series.
Old issues came back to haunt Gen.G, whose offense was once again ineffective. The ESL One: Road to Rio champions, who had the second-worst T round win percentage of the tournament (41.2%) and the lowest multikills per round (0.58), will now have a few days to fix those issues before Friday's DreamHack Masters Spring clash with Liquid.
Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz's side came out of the gate on fire, taking control of proceedings after a highly-contested opening period. Gen.G looked flat and out of ideas, with the half ending with a lop-sided 11-4 scoreline in favor of EG.

Things then went from bad to worse for Gen.G, who saw Evil Geniuses get within touching distance of victory after taking the first three rounds of the half. With no margin for error, Damian "daps" Steele's troops tightened up and gradually took the upper hand, but by then they were already too far behind their opponents, who eventually picked up the two rounds they needed to wrap things up.
Ethan "Ethan" Arnold went huge in the opening round on Inferno with a 1v3 clutch - killing the last opponent with just 0.05 seconds left on the defuse - to set EG up for a 3-0 lead. An AWP ace from Timothy "autimatic" Ta in the first gun round then provided the spark for a period of dominance from Gen.G, who were uncontested for seven consecutive rounds. It looked like the Dreamhack Open Anaheim champions would run away with the lead, but a late resurgence from Evil Geniuses saw them move to within one round of parity before the break.
After switching to the T side, Gen.G finally got their first pistol round of the series, but their respite was only momentary as Evil Geniuses fought back immediately on a force-buy. Despite a few hiccups, EG kept the defense tight as they shut out a Gen.G team that was once again lackluster on the T side, with four of their players posting four frags or fewer over the course of the half.
