Seven teams handed ultimatum by Valve over ownership conflict

Valve has given seven teams, including MIBR, FaZe and Evil Geniuses, five months to resolve conflicts of interest identified in ESL One: Road to Rio, HLTV.org has learned.

In an email obtained by HLTV.org, Valve explained that, after reviewing the declarations of interest provided by the teams for the first Regional Major Ranking (RMR) tournament, it found three instances of conflicts of interest that represent "a threat to the integrity of the Majors."

The biggest entanglement has Yeah at the center of it. The Brazilian team is owned by four people with ties to three different organisations: Epitacio "TACO" de Melo and Ricardo "dead" Sinigaglia (MIBR), Marcelo "coldzera" David (FaZe) and Wilton "zews" Prado (Evil Geniuses). The four co-owners allegedly don't make any decisions on behalf of the company, which has a financial agreement with the Immortals Gaming Club (IGC), MIBR's parent company. In exchange for a set annual fee, IGC has the option to buy out at most two players from Yeah in a calendar year at a set price.

coldzera and TACO are among Yeah's co-owners

Valve also identified as conflicts the fact that Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund is a player in Dignitas and owns a stake in Ninjas in Pyjamas, and that Tomi "lurppis" Kovanen is part of the senior leadership of IGC and a minority shareholder of ENCE.

Best CSGO betting sites on offer can be found here.

All teams have until the next Major, which is scheduled for November, to resolve these conflicts of interest if they intend to participate in the $2 million tournament, Valve noted. The company seems to be leaning towards enforcing a zero-tolerance policy in terms of ownership conflict from 2021 after taking a more lenient approach this year as it looked to reignite the discussion in the community about this sensitive topic.

Nah, but they work for it don't they? I mean all they do is paper work and the final goal is achieving money, when developing really sucks. I know that developers of games and those guys are different people working for the same company that have different jobs and work, however, my comment is about the company itself. Valve only seek money and fun.

nahh that was for fun :DD Like come on, do you enjoy updates in csgo that much? I think for a game of that size they need to be like mothers, and cs has to be their child. Cases? meeeh. thats money. Features/textures on the maps are easily added. Look at Steam Workshop. Non professional people are doing more than valve ever did with that machine called cs XD Optimisation is kinda useless and hard to measure as cs is very old game. Crosshair preview? I'd not be very proud of that achievement since game came out in 2012 and THIS could be added by any modder in the community server

What do a casual player like you want to be happy? New Weapons? New Gamemode? Do you want CS to turn into Team Fortress? CS is a highly competitive game. The most competitive in the world. Its the purest of all, aim and gamesense decides who wins. There are plenty of shitty games who are broken as fuck who introduce more broken shit mechanics every other month. Maybe go ahead and play overwatch or lol there you get new stuff on a regulat basis. CSGo is not perfect, but its closer to perfection than anything else...

I like Team Fortress. I highly recommend you take it back. Cs will never ever be like tf because it is worse. Casual player like me played 5000 hours of csgo. I took breaks because it became boring after reaching global elite. Reaching faceit lvl 10 was more like a joke to me, pointless and time wasting. A normal, casual player like me wants cs games to be better than other games like lulorant, but it doesn't mean being the same old shit forever. Maybe because of people like you cs will never truly reach its potential as a game

Listen man and listen really carefully. CS GO , and cs games in general, offering FOR FREE content you wont see anywhere else. Go right now to community servers and youll find 100 different mods to play with anyone you want. Name me a game that does that for free. Then you have cases yes and all kind of other stuff that COMMUNITY , means US, creating and can benefit from them as well. Who you think makes majority of skins ? People like us ! Who made the newest maps that made it in competitive pool ? People like us ... Do you know that they making thousands of dollars for that ? Then you have so many mods in CS GO for free aside community mods. Official mods like 2vs2 and pseudo-pubg mode etc. They might suck but you got em ... for free. You even paying for different PASSES and still making your bucks back !! Name me a game you can do that. Game is old and needs improvement , graphical mainly i agree but STOP crying over things you are totally wrong and be honest. CS GO offers x100 more things to do and play with than any other game out there for free while at the same time giving ALOT back to community either to common players or pro players and that is a fact. All this drama about patches is a damn nonsense coming from Valorant noobs ! Thats all. So stop it and go spend a fortune in valorant ( skins/pass) so you can play 4 maps competitive/custom and think it as amazing. Damn some people, brainwashed so easily.

Listen carefully! Mods were created by people as a hobby, that's why they are free. People from community surely expanded csgo, but is this valve's achievement? Skyrim has lots of "free" stuff too, but it also has countless bugs! Why don't they fix that in such a game? Coming back to cases, they are for money. Don't even provide cases as a reason why csgo is good, that's pathetic. Again, skins are created by the community, VALVE ARE DOING NOTHING FOR A LONG TIME. occasionally releasing "changes to maps" are totally irrelevant. I'm not valorant fan, I've never played valorant. Passes and receiving money back? Black squad is a game you can try it out, maybe there are even more games, I just don't know. This is also repetitive game. Do you like doing passes again and again? Don't lie, you never receive money back from steam. Csgo just gives you opportunity to play the game and transfer money to steam balancw, which is valve again. Jesus, what are you talking about? Read my previous replies, brainwashed fan. Cs is not perfect by far, and you are holding it back with your lowtier taste

No no no no... Mods created because VALVE let them. Try make mods for Valorant ? OOps, no mods, no community servers, no trades between items, no $$ income from passes ? Cases are for money but even with cases community benefits. Name me another game does that ! You get lucky , you get a bravo case, well done 15 bucks for you out of nowhere. You open a case, you spend 2.20, 10% of that goes to SKIN CREATORS who are people like you and me AND you have an opportunity to make x10 or more your original investement. Try that in other games, good luck. CS GO doesnt give back to community and VALVE doesnt care and Valorant does ? Really ? Rofl. Just STOP it !! In cs go i can play x100 different ways than ANY other game out there for free,. Stop it. You sound stupid because few twitchers, CSGO pro failures, said so.

Ok but tell me about what kind of bugs you talking about. Because i am playing CS GO since day one and aside some hitboxes or/and early performance issues i never found any bug. I know there were bugs here and there that people exploited but as of now , about what bugs you talking about that are game changing and game is bad because of them ? I dont even know.

You are totally clueless about the topic. You call removing conflicts of interests from the scene mere "paper work" and for you it's sign of corporate greed. It takes literally 0 recourses from developers. I'm not sure what is your problem. If anything that shows that Valve still cares about CS:Go.

Yeah, they should have made half life 3 instead. Plus, it shows they don't care about is if they make another game. They leave it be because "don't fix if works" but at the same time it took them 8 years to fix HE damage, maybe will take another 10 to fix smokes and anticheat. Greedy at it best, they don't lack anything, except motivation, and because more and more people protect their game, they will never change

Basically saying there is a lot of cross ownership amongst competing teams. With some players even having stake in said teams. They are trying to avoid some fucky drama in the future essentially. Like Get_Right throwing games with Dig to help NIP proceed farther in the major for his financial gain.

If there wouldn't be people like Richard Lewis Valve wouldn't do shit over cases like these. Look at IBP. Valve literally avoided to interfere until evidence was brought to their feet and smelled so bad they were basically forced to act. You can dislike Richard Lewis that's alrirght I don't like everything he does or says but nevertheless, he does a great service to the competetive integrity of the scene.

Even if Valve handled issues on their own, independent sources are very valuable. Not to mention is helps avoid bias. There's a reason many groups aren't allowed to police themselves. Your outlook is incredibly short sighted.

Yeah it is the worst case 'cause they are linked with a lot of organizations. What i meant is that YeaH wouldnt qualify 'cause they are below a lot of NA teams, also they wouldnt throw their careers to guatantee a vague in a team, its non sense.

like i already said i dont want to be specific. i only used this case bcs its the most obvious one. the thing that they wont most likely make it doesnt mean that conflict of interest is ok. its not ok in any case on any level and there should be no exceptions. mibr/yeah will maybe not match fix but the possibility is still here and just because mibr/yeah wont most likely make it doesnt mean that some other teams wont make it as well. this is without a doubt good move from valve. better late than never

Also, Rio happening as a LAN? lol no, forget about it man.

OK, that's BS. It is 100% sure that lurppis cannot affect ENCE nor MIBR results, and for sure get_right will throw against NiP over some two stocks, sure he will. The Yeah thing sounds so weird that IDK what goes on there. Basically Valve tries to take control of people's possibility for income after playing career in the name of "integrity".

competitive integrity is the single most important thing, without it this game and esports scene is rendered pointless. i'm not 100% up-to-date in the lurppis case but active players or coaches or anyone involved into company's decision making simply shouldn't be allowed to hold stocks of any opposing teams.

I am pretty sure Immortals is far more interested in lurppis' integrity than volvo will ever actually be. lurppis doesn't even own immortals, just works there. You maybe could have a case with get_right, but again dignitas might step in with way higher interest towards the case than volvo would. Sure if someone has majority say at two different teams, the integrity question is real. But not when there are internally way higher stakes involved with the integrity issues. The companies and involved individuals will keep things in line. Otherwise they will lose their jobs, stocks, and face legal actions from these companies.

No thats not how it works, competetive integrity is a all or nothing kind of thing, either you completely ignore it and just allow throws and scripted shit to happen or you ban all of it, even in the smallest margin possible. Im so surprised by htlv , one day you guys want the most pure competetive experience and shit on fb for their cs deal but then if players, coaches or other industry people own stakes in one or more teams that theyre also potentially competing against thats somehow fine
2020-06-08 23:04

So what prevents that from happeing without ownership? Nothing. The integrity issues are only real, when one has power over both parties or can exchange classifed information for their own gain. People should be more concerned that ESL owns share of G2. There's a real integrity issue.

Yeah wouldn't qualify anyway most likely. Dignitas same. ENCE I think won't play because they have Jamppi, or will they play with xseveN? If they play with xseveN they won't achieve anything at major to. Making problems of something like this feels bad.

Wtf valve is doing for our community? everything they can make to worst the cene they do! Why they are against the game development?! Do you know what? Probably for them are be better that players invest theirs money in other games instead of counter strike! I'm glad Valve being strict about this. Those involved people are unlikely to do anything bad because they should know better. However, if one person in a weak moment does something scandal at a Major, that will do some severe damages to the scene that may take years to recover if possible at all. No companies would like to be associated with an esport that has some ridiculous scandal at its highest level of competition.
2020-06-08 19:52

Crazy that they give them until the major to resolve it. If there was actually going to be any funny business then it seems far more likely to occur during the qualifying.

Typical brazillian. It's not as simple as that. Worst case they might face fraud (actual crime of civil fraud) charges in the future if at any point it's proven that they are the real owners, or if it never comes to that they could always be banned by Valve from their competitions if they find out. If they earn money through it (which is the whole point) they would need to file the tax report properly too, and if they don't that's another crime, tax evasion.

Seriously, mate? I am obviously joking... Although if there is similarities between business law between here and I'm USA, it's totally doable and legal... I don't even want to go deep into it. But obviously they wouldn't receive any legal money from it. I really don't know much about business law in US, but if you take Brazil for instance, this wouldn't be considered fraud because they are selling it ta a major stakeholder right now, so it's not really illegal. One thing is the in the paper, the other is the practice. Camila could be a straw man for them and obviously they wouldn't receive any legal money. In this country this is so easy to do, I see this in lawsuits at least twice per month, in which you know it's a fraud and you can't prove it, lol. Even more in acquisition process. But yeah, I don't know what I am talking about...

I see, you are joking, but at the same time you talking seriously too, what a dumbass. It's illegal both in Brazil and in the US. It's not illegal to sell the company, it's illegal to pretend you selled it and be a "hidden owner".

I just talked how it's easily doable and you don't get caught here. I am not talking about legality. But you can't even argue without talking shit, so fuck off.

Assaulting people on the streets is doable too, it's still a crime.

Nice Valve, working in interest conflicts instead of Source 2. Let's wait until VALORANT steals all players.

Valve is dumb. When you have conflicts of interest you have a list of people who can matchfix. They remove the list and then don't know who is throwing.

you need evidence. Also, it is toxic for the scene if teams always accused of match-fixing that is why Valve made this rule.

"Yeah" will become MIBR.Academy? lol Concerning Get_Right and lurppis, it's a shame they will have to sell their share only to make Valve happy... Oh yeah Valve: it's time to work on Half-Life 3 ;)
