FURIA edge past 100 Thieves to book DreamHack Masters Spring final spot

FURIA came from behind to beat 100 Thieves 2-1 and lock down a place in the DreamHack Masters Spring final in North America.

It wasn't pretty and it certainly wasn't easy, but FURIA held firm to reach their second consecutive tournament final. The Brazilians stuttered, then moved into high gear to pull off a reverse sweep against a 100 Thieves side led by the always-impressive Justin "jks" Savage, who deserved a better result with the way that he fought tonight.

It looked like FURIA's winning streak in series would come to an end after they were humbled on their map pick of Inferno, where they simply posed no threat to their opponents. But they came to life on Vertigo, where they looked sharper almost from the offset, before completing the job in a messy Train game that was a battle of nerve and emotion with jks and Yuri "yuurih" Santos at the forefront.

The Brazilians got off to a slow start on Inferno, winning just one of the opening 11 rounds after struggling to break through 100 Thieves' defense. Nothing seemed to going FURIA's way, but then the team picked up three more rounds before the break to keep their comeback hopes alive.

More misery was to come, however, as FURIA lost the second-half pistol after their defense was torn apart by an ace from Sean "Gratisfaction" Kaiwai. That was the start of a dominant T half from the Australians, who wrapped things up in the 19th round after jks had put the team on map point with a 1v3 clutch.

FURIA move on to the grand final

100 Thieves looked determined to build on that Inferno mauling as they jumped out to a 3-1 lead on the T side of Vertigo, a map where they had run out 16-5 winners the last time these two teams had faced each other. However, the rest of the half was dominated by FURIA, who shut out the Australians with a strong defensive performance led by captain Andrei "arT" Piovezan, who had 17 frags to his name.

Down 4-11, 100 Thieves kept themselves in it as jks and Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad clutched a 2v4 situation in the pistol round, but there was no follow-up as FURIA responded immediately on a force-buy. The Brazilians pressed on and quickly hit 14 rounds, but 100 Thieves showed they still had plenty left in the tank as they began to eat away at the deficit, with Jay "Liazz" Tregillgas dealing a massive blow to his opponents as he pulled off a seemingly-impossible 1v2 clutch. FURIA were starting to feel the pressure as only three rounds separated the two teams, but then arT took matters into his own hands with a trio of frags inside A to halt the Australians' momentum and set his team up for victory, which came in the following round.

It all came down to Train, which began with FURIA romping to a 3-0 lead on the Terrorist side. When 100 Thieves finally bought up, the landscape of the game changed dramatically as the Australians won six rounds without response, but FURIA took control of proceedings in the latter stages of the half to take a narrow 8-7 lead.

Now on the offense, 100 Thieves strung a few rounds together before Henrique "HEN1" Teles and yuurih put FURIA back in the lead with some impressive plays. The game then entered a scrappy phase as rounds went both ways and nerves began to set for both sides, with 100 Thieves restoring parity at 14-14 after winning an eco round. Brazilian fans feared that this was the end for FURIA, but then the team quickly shut down the outer bombsite before wrapping things up in the final round of regulation.

FURIA can be stable at this TOP 6-10 level, but I don't think they will go higher with this roster. 100 Thieves have potential, they just need more time.

100Thieves for me has more potential than FURIA. Because FURIA can be stable at this TOP 6-10 level but they won't go higher with this roster. And I think 100 Thieves can fight against the best teams in the world.

Sorry, i can't see how a newer, younger and already better roster have less potential, than a team with Liazz, Gratisfaction and AZR... 100T only play good when JKS carries like madman which wouldn't happen every match and even if happen sometimes will not be enough.

Liazz is ok, not anything special but ok. Gratisfaction is very good. AZR good support, very good fragger. And 100 Thieves plays well when jkaem and jks play really well, and it happens quiet often.

No it won't. They have just not good enough players. They are at their peak now, and their peak is the TOP 6-10 level. They won't go higher without changes.

Wtf? Stop acting like you know how things happen. If they are capable of dominating the NA scenario, they have capacity to dominate EU as well. Happened like this with LG in 2016 and a bunch of other teams. You can't just say what will happen until it happen.

Their win in NA doesn't mean they will be good vs EU teams. It doesn't work like this. Also remember that it's online, and you don't know how the things are going to work on LAN. And what are you even comparing LG to FURIA. It's completely other situation.

The point here is that you are affirming that Furia IS NOT capable of being a top 3-5 without any basement unless they are playing in NA. Yes, I don't know how things are going on LAN and you either. Stop talking bullshit about their capacity.

They are just not good enough to beat TOP EU teams. And I can imagine that team like FURIA which doesn't have to much experience in it is going to play worse on LAN than to Online. I won't stop talking, because it's forum, learn what is forum and then talk.

"they are just not good enough to beat TOP EU teams." Based on what? You are not even trying to refute my point, you are just saying bullshit based on your shitty intuition. Furia already beat Astralis on LAN. They already proved being able to beat EU teams and reach a TOP 5 ranking. I didn't ask you to stop talking, I asked you to stop talking bullshit. At least try to prove what are you saying based on facts, instead of just talking non sense bullshit. I'm done here. Post a comment in the futures Furia x EU top teams matches and we will encounter ourselves in the future.

,,bullshit based on your shitty intuition''. Wait till the LAN tournaments will come and you will see what I meant. How can I prove it? I can only say that it's seenable and when LAN will come they won't be able to win tournaments. Hope we will, it will be interesting.

Bruh 100t need more time? They have had this roster for nearly 2 years and it hasn't got them anywhere. Sure they got a new coach, but I don't think they will reach the top with this roster. Need to change some players around or do something new. Whilst I will still support them, I just think it has been too long being a "semi-contender".

More time with new coach. You don't know how big can a coach change be. For me they shouldn't change anything in this roster, just find new good coach.

they've had this lineup since october 2018, yeah we should wait a few more years LUL you can't be that stupid to think a new coach could get them to the top

Their lineup does indeed look good but imo not enough to be a real top1-3 contender. Especially not with Gratisfaction, they need a more reliable awper for that.

I think the better solution would be to change igl and extra player on the roster, or -2 players that doesn't involve changing igl. This roster simply isn't good enough to win a major but its definitely possible to put together pure australian roster that could win a major.
