tp.usports win WCG Russia
tp.usports have secured direct entry into this year's World Cyber Games event following a 2-1 win over Virtus.pro.
The Russian qualifier started out with a 16-team group stage, after which the eight best moved to the knock-out stages.
tp.usports, who curiously did not even finish at the top of their group, booked a place in the final after disposing of A-Gaming and forZe, while Virtus.pro had to sweep past T44 and EYESports.
And it would be Virtus.pro to take the lead, after a 16-12 success on de_inferno. However, tp.usports proved they were anything but out of the race, winning the next two maps, de_train and de_dust2, 16-12 and 16-10, respectively.
Broken tag
Virtus.pro have also qualified for the WCG finals in Chengdu next month, but will have to bear all costs themselves after finishing in second place.
