Renegades win DreamHack Open Summer Oceania

Renegades won two maps in the DreamHack Open Summer Oceania grand final to AVANT’s one, which added to the upper bracket advantage gave them the three needed to secure the best-of-five series and claim victory.

Renegades, who have been sorely affected by the coronavirus pandemic that has kept the team stuck in Australia, have once again proven they are the strongest team currently residing in their region with a victory at DreamHack Open Summer Oceania, making it three in a row after winning ESL One Road to Rio - Oceania and DreamHack Masters Spring Oceania.

Renegades and AVANT met in the four-team DreamHack Open Summer Oceania grand final. Renegades reached it by winning both of their upper-bracket matches against Rooster and ORDER. AVANT on the other hand had to go the hard way, losing their opener to the aforementioned ORDER before beating Rooster and taking revenge on Ricardo "Rickeh" Mulholland and company in the lower bracket to secure their spot in the final.

Having made it through the upper bracket, Renegades took the automatic 1-0 advantage in the best-of-five final series, which kicked off on AVANT’s first map pick, Nuke. A strong 9-6 attacking side gave AVANT the necessary fuel on the defense to edge out their opponents on map one as Mike "ap0c" Aliferis plowed through the Renegades with 33 kills and 108.9 ADR in AVANT’s 16-13 map one victory.

DreamHack Open Summer is Renegades' third tournament win in a row

The series then moved to Mirage, where AVANT were once again able to lead at the half, 8-7, despite losing the first 6 rounds on the CT side. Peter "BL1TZ" Athanasatos’s men then won the second pistol round, and although they gave up the anti-eco, they kept their lead with a treble in the first gun rounds. Renegades didn’t let the map and series start get away from underneath them, however, and imposed their dominance with a seven round streak to regain the lead, 2-1.

Dust2 started out close, with AVANT regaining the lead after losing the first two rounds, 3-2, but were unable to produce successful offensives as Renegades stabilized on the defense winning seven rounds unchallenged before AVANT could bring it back to 6-9. Christopher "dexter" Nong and company then started to run away with the map early on in the second half, and although AVANT did their best to stop the inevitable, Renegades closed it out 16-11 to secure the victory.

Looking forward to see Renegades continue to get better. I personally think that this series was a bit of a close call, but they still pulled it off with mostly good numbers at that too.

No 100T no opponent for Renegades in Oceania. Quite boring actually. At least TYLOO lost some games in Asia, but Renegades' winning rate is too high in Oceania.

Why didn't they do this tournament in SA knowing that the Australian scene is dead, the only good team is Renegades. Here in SA there is more level, we have great teams like Boom, Isurus, Sharks, 9z, Red Canids, Imperial, W7M

NA= Holds the grand Slam which is incredibly harder to do than win two majors

you're right but really both regions are dead because no EU or NA teams recruit any new talent from SA or OCE, I'm suprised they invest anything into either of our regions.

I'm really surprised that this Renegades roster is able to win any tournament. For me this lineup is really bad, and without some changes they won't be good outside of the Oceania region.
