Heroic take out fnatic for playoff spot at ESL One Cologne

The Danes continued their impressive group stage campaign at the tournament, eliminating fnatic from the tournament after two maps.

Things didn't go very well for fnatic early on when they took on HEROIC on the Danes' pick, Vertigo, with Casper "⁠cadiaN⁠" Møller's men looking in control of the opening half as Terrorists. The Swedish squad didn't let it get out of hand, opting for an early double-AWP setup to get on the board and soon coming on nearly equal footing, but in the end HEROIC still came out ahead 9-6 after breaking their opponents' economy late.

The Danish team's success continued with a second pistol round win, and soon they were within striking distance of clinching the first map despite giving up the first gunround to Maikil "⁠Golden⁠" Selim and Robin "⁠flusha⁠" Rönnquist's 2v4 clutch. fnatic managed to hold on to dear life for a while and reached double digits, but they ultimately came far short of the comeback, with Martin "⁠stavn⁠" Lund's triple and a key double from Johannes "⁠b0RUP⁠" Borup helping HEROIC scrape together the last two rounds.

Heroic looked in control for most of the series

Freddy "⁠KRIMZ⁠" Johansson kicked off Overpass with a pistol triple to give fnatic their first good start into the half, but the first gunrounds belonged to HEROIC, who ran away with five in a row to pick up an early lead. It was soon gone, however, as Jesper "⁠JW⁠" Wecksell's triple helped the Swedish side reclaim the advantage, which they maintained late into the half on the back of another triple-kill from KRIMZ in a 2v4 scenario.

The map soon got out of their control once they switched over to the CT side, where fnatic seemed outgunned at every turn as they conceded eight rounds in a row to HEROIC. flusha and KRIMZ finally stopped the rot with a double each, but it was too little, too late, and some important openings from René "⁠TeSeS⁠" Madsen gave the Danes the space to close the series at 16-11, 2-0.
