pita admits to using spectator bug in 2018 ESL Pro League match

The Swedish coach has come forward and publicly acknowledged his use of the bug in an online match against MOUZ.

Former Ninjas in Pyjamas coach Faruk "⁠pita⁠" Pita released a statement on Friday revealing that he used the coaching bug during the team's last ESL Pro League Season 8 match against MOUZ, back in November 2018. At that point, the Ninjas were already set for a relegation battle — before the Pro League was expanded to 16 teams —, while their opponents were fighting for seeding at the LAN finals.

pita, who was replaced by Björn "⁠THREAT⁠" Pers as Ninjas in Pyjamas's coach in January 2020, claims he didn't know how the bug was triggered and that he only used it for five or six rounds. Feeling remorseful for his actions, he then tried to contact Valve to report the bug through Twitter's Direct Messages, a channel he had previously used to contact the game developer regarding similar problems.

When pita finally figured out how the exploit worked and how he could trigger it, four months after his initial report, he once again reached out to the CS:GO development team but received no response.

pita revealed he abused the coaching bug in a 2018 match

"I accept any punishment handed out to me," pita wrote in a statement, "I realize this will harm my reputation as a coach but I can’t undo things even though I would like to. I just have to accept this and admit my guilt. I’m sorry to everyone that I know and who knows me. I understand that you might look at me differently after this but I hope you can forgive me one day. The bug got the better of me, I acted irrational and I fucked up. I never used that bug afterwards.

"The only thing I did afterwards when it happened again was to press the keys 1-10 and the bug would stop. If there’s any admin who wants to confirm that from my POVs in online games I’d be happy to assist with my demos."

The Esports Integrity Coalition announced on Friday that it had opened an investigation into the coaching bug matter, with a confession period that will run through September 13. Admissions of guilt can be sent directly to the commissioner by email at [email protected], and concessions may be made by the ESIC at their discretion based on the quality of the confessions.

That's not what an accident is friendo. An accident is not on purpose. If he intentionally goes into the bug in order to gain information, then that's worse than if he gets bugged and doesn't instantly do the right thing. He still deserves punishment, just not 'equal bans for all'. That's how literally every justice system in the world works. If you plan to kill someone, that's worse than if you don't plan it and do it by accident. Premeditated murder is punished more heavily than murder of opportunity. Similarly, premeditated bug abuse should be punished more severely than opportunistic bug abuse that is almost immediately regretted and reported.

jump bug gave equal or even more information than the spectator bug on some maps like inferno ct side, so therefore it was yes a different level bug and it was pretty easy to spot if someone was doing it or not. DMing to a Twitter profile that has some PR-IT guys running it has about the same result as writing to Valve's Twitter. Sure, they can forward the concern, but they might easily have a policy of not DMing anyone at all due to privacy risks. It just sounds like a lie to even mention it like that in the first place, as everyone knows Valve is bad at consumer relations. Valve did nothing yet, not even a post. ESL banned coaches. Valve is too busy with dota 2 compendium (+100kk every year).

The answer is simply, no one read this PM at that time. Also usually twitter is not the best way to report bugs. At the moment there is this e-mail with csgofeedback in name for bug reports. I don't remember if it existed back in 2018. I don't blame pita, also there are the cases when molo+smoke bug let you see enemy in the smoke, do you shot or not? If you shot you are abusing the bug but it's completely normal and not a reason for a ban. If someone intentionally triggers the coach bug and uses it for providing info then it is cheating. When it happens to you first time then you usually don't have time to evaluate what it really is and that it is not fair to stay in the bugged mode.
