F_1N admits to one-time coaching bug use, gets suspended by Gambit*

The Gambit Youngsters coach took to Twitter on Friday to declare his use of the coaching bug in one match in February.

Update: Gambit has suspended F_1N until a verdict is issued by ESIC, the organization has announced.

Ivan "⁠F_1N⁠" Kochugov admitted to encountering the exploit and using it during the first map, Dust2, of Gambit Youngsters' upper bracket quarter-final series against AGO in OGA Counter Pit Season 7 on February 17 this year.

The 36-year-old coach maintains that he "realized the gravity of this situation" after winning the opening map, stressing that he didn't use it for the rest of the series, which Gambit Youngsters went on to lose, nor in any other match before or after.

F_1N posted his confession on Friday

To go along with his confession F_1N shared a video, in which he is shown viewing the CT spawn of Dust2 and gaining information of the movements of AGO there during the first round of the map.

So far, three coaches have come forward ever since ESIC launched an investigation and opened a confession period for offenders, lasting until September 13. Faruk "⁠pita⁠" Pita and Allan "⁠Rejin⁠" Petersen previously came out to admit to their use of the coaching bug in NiP and in Tricked, respectively.

The initial wave of coaching bug abuse cases saw Ricardo "⁠dead⁠" Sinigaglia, Nicolai "⁠HUNDEN⁠" Petersen, and Aleksandr "⁠zoneR⁠" Bogatiryev banned from ESL and DreamHack competitions, with the Brazilian also receiving a separate ban from Beyond the Summit.

I no longer agree with this coaching bug, so many people have used it that you are punishing too much of the scene. If any more coaches in top 20 teams are caught or admit to using it I feel bans should be lifted. Remember, Astralis and BIG used significant bugs and never got banned or punished for it, so why should coaches?

Also, Astralis never abused a bug afaik and the bug that Big abused was known and allowed from the tournament organizer and they later agreed to not use it again, also the jump bug doesn't even come close to this coach bug which is basically a wallhack on steroids. They should all get banned depending on the severity of their abuse, someone like f1n prolly gets a few months while ppl who abused it more often might even get a lifetime ban which would be fair.

The point of the matter is that coaches that used a bug like this for a SINGLE ROUND should not face similar punishments to ones that used it for SEVERAL MATCHES in MAJOR QUALIFIERS. I find it horrible that they are actually using these bug exploits at this professional level, where they get paid. No morality there just the desire to win at all the maximum capacity. Big respect to NiP coach Pita, who privately tried to contact Valve couple times 2 years ago. Another horrible fact is that Valve didn't listen Pita at that time.

I also want to compare this situation to Jamppi's. He didn't know cheating would affect to his future career, when he was 15-year-old teenager. At this professional level these coaches should have known the result they might cause to their team at professional level. Jamppi wasn't professional player back, when he was 15y.

Then again, if we compare skiing for example to this sport, where Theresa Johaug only got couple years ban from using doping? Why should Jamppi get life-time ban I don't see any reason. not in the slightest ironically, been around for 20 years and never touched a cheat nor would i accept it. but its not like they installed a hack or sth, they abused a broken mechanic, its wrong, they should be punished and move on, but banning people? its 2 much in my eyes in comparison with actual cheaters who hack in games. there should be a difference dont u think? theres levels to cheating if u know what i mean. /e: if u wanna ban a coach for using a broken mechanic for 2 years, then you would have to ban an actual hacking player for 10 years. not realistic, sadly, even tho id love the 2nd part.

I understand your point but I don't agree with it. They knowingly abused a broken mechanic that is, in my opinion, even better than a wallhack. Why? Because it's always the players who are suspected of cheating, not coaches. Who the fuck would think about checking the coaches' demos? That's why they knew they would get away with it and that's why they used it. Maybe perma ban is too much, but it should be treated like using a wallhack.

A wallhack is dynamic on the whole map and no "bug", the coach exploit was static and "only" usable in 1 area of the map. Doesnt make it okay obviously, but its not on the same level and far from "better than a wallhack" in my book. Plus they didnt purchase sth to cheat, they prolly stumbled upon it by accident and some used it in couple of rounds or matches to help their team. Ofcourse its wrong, we dont need to argue that, but its one of those "cheats" i can forgive because they were prolly in the heat of the moment and wanted to help their team obviously. Especially if you used it in 1 round or 1 match for example. Its not a scheme used for months i imagine in most cases.
