starix joins Hard Legion as coach

The former NAVI player and coach will take charge of the Russian team, who were recently involved in the coaching bug scandal.

Hard Legion have announced that they have installed Sergey "⁠starix⁠" Ischuk as the new head coach of their Counter-Strike team. The 32-year-old will take over from Aleksandr "⁠zoneR⁠" Bogatiryev, who was last week handed a two-year ban by ESL/DreamHack and the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) for abusing the spectator bug in a competitive setting.

starix, who is mostly known for his five-year tenure with Natus Vincere between 2010 and 2015, had announced in July that he would look for "new beginnings" once his contract with 1win expired. He spent just five months in the Russian team, reuniting with his former NAVI teammate Anton "⁠tonyblack⁠" Kolesnikov, before being moved to the bench early in the summer following a series of mixed results.

starix returns to a coaching position

This will be starix's second coaching stint after he guided NAVI between 2015 and 2017. He returned to a player role after leaving the CIS giants and went on to represent teams like Spirit, k1ck and Runtime before joining 1win in January 2020.

The Ukrainian coach will have one month to prepare the team for the final Regional Major Ranking (RMR) tournament in the CIS region, IEM New York. Hard Legion are currently inside the qualification zone for the ESL One: Rio Major, but they could still lose the 1400 points that they won by finishing in third place in the ESL One: Road to Rio tournament due to using the spectator bug in this competition. Hard Legion have been retroactively disqualified from the Road to Rio CIS tournament by ESL, but the final decision on the RMR points belongs to Valve, which has stayed silent on this matter.

I don’t understand how swag, who was literally a child that made a stupid mistake when he threw that game, can still be permabanned, but this fucking coach gets handed a two year ban, and the others get even less, and they are all full grown adults who knew exactly what they were doing and the penalty if they were caught.
