100 Thieves defeat Liquid; to face Evil Geniuses in ESL Pro League consolidation final

100 Thieves reverse swept Liquid to proceed through the ESL Pro League Season 12 North America lower bracket, where they will face Evil Geniuses in the consolidation final.

The third and fourth best teams in the ESL Pro League Season 12 North America group stage, Liquid and 100 Thieves, faced off in the first lower bracket playoff match after FURIA blew past Evil Geniuses in the upper bracket. This time it was 100 Thieves who took revenge on Liquid, whom they had lost to at the beginning of the month in the group stage, coming from behind to turn the series around after losing their map pick. 100 Thieves will now face EG in the consolidation final on Saturday in hopes of reaching the grand final, where FURIA is waiting.

The series kicked off on Vertigo, 100 Thieves’ map pick, but it was Liquid who took the first pistol round on the CT side as Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski downed four of the attacking players on A. The match was tied up in the second round, with 100 Thieves swinging the momentum early on in the half. It wasn’t until the 11th round that Liquid were able to stop the attackers, who were running amok with the half, going on a five-round streak to bring it back to 6-9 at the half.

Liquid won the second pistol round, securing a 5vs5 afterplant situation on the A site, going on to tie the map up before 100 Thieves’ first buy. Two opening frags by Jay "Liazz" Tregillgas helped the CTs win their first round of the second half, which they were able to follow up to start gaining momentum, but Liquid regained control after a save round giving up just one round on their way to a 16-13 victory.

Gratisfaction topped the scoreboard with a 1.30 rating in the series

100 Thieves bounced back by winning the CT-side pistol round and taking an early 5-1 lead, but Liquid were quick to bring it back to a tie. EliGE and company then took the lead, but 100 Thieves struck back with doubles by Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad and Justin "jks" Savage to take the lead and go ahead 9-6 at the half.

Doubles by jkaem and Liazz got 100 Thieves on double digits in the second pistol round, but an upset by Liquid in the third round of the half turned things around as they closed the gap to 10-11. The two teams reached the 26th round all tied up, 13-13, but an explosion onto the A site gave 100 Thieves the lead back as they cruised to a 16-13 victory to force the series into the decider map.

Liquid are out of ESL Pro League S12 North America in fourth place

100 Thieves won another pistol round on the defending side of Inferno with doubles by Liazz and jks, going up 4-0 before Liquid brought it back to a tie. The two teams then traded rounds vying for control of the half, but back-to-back multikill rounds by Sean "Gratisfaction" Kaiwai with the AWP kept his side ahead as they ended the half up 9-6.

A play from apartments to A gave 100 Thieves the second pistol round, which they were able to follow up two times before Liquid retaliated, but it was the terrorists who were able to pull through, winning the map 16-9 to secure the series and proceed to the consolidation final.

It blows my mind TL decided to turn Naf who is a world class rifler into an awper, kick their IGL/awp, and then replace him with another rising star rifler. It just makes no logical sense, you could have 2 strong teams based around this TL core but they lack necessary roles in their current line up.

+144567899 Only thing I may disagree with is nitr0 being the awper. He only ever really awped on overpass. But I think he could've awped on the other maps and improved. Either way, nitro is definitely an upgrade at igl over stew. So sad that Stewie's lack of Structure and leadership is going to destroy a rising NA talents career before it starts. Stew2k has no idea how to incorporate him into the lineup

You wouldn’t think stewie changed his sleep schedule for this match? Didn’t even consider that stewie is a professional player so he obviously needs to change his sleep schedule to prepare for a match? Also if you watched the pre match interview with Chet (100T coach) they busted their asses preparing for this and it payed off

To add on, in traditional sports, athletes wake up super early on the morning to warm up. Swimmers, for example, have already been training for 6 hours by the time 10am roles around.

Yes, but in esports its a bit different, wake up approx. 2 hours or more before match, they normally begin to warm up 1 hour and 30 minutes before the match and so fourth, but same concept. Good point.

Man, feels bad to see TL playing like this. Sometimes I wonder if Liquid would be in a better spot if they never kicked Nitr0 and got a full time main awp instead of stew.

Probably would've been better, not sure though. Team currently lacks structure which is by design in Stew's leading, but it's not working. Having nitr0 meant actually great leadership that works out with a gy performing as good as Stew.

I believe Liquid should stop trying with the loose style and just try to get some actual structure going on with defined roles. It is weird seeing NAF main awp some times and stew awp the rest all while either elige or grim play entry and twistzzz does support. Their mid round calls are also desperate in most cases. I won't fully blame stew's igl just yet because he is somewhat still adapting, but if the team continues to lose against T2 NA, I would say it is clear that leadership must be changed so that there are better strats. I believe adreN should have stayed in TL as an analyst or something, at least under him TL tried to be the carbon copy of Astralis strategy-wise.

Snake2k need to retire. First he leave his friends in c9 to mibr, then he singlehandedly destroy liquid from inside by kicking their long standing player and coach nitro and adren. Now he is always bottom fragging and all his call is so bad. They should kick snake2k and there will be no team to accept him.
