CSPPA in talks with tournament organizers over LAN safety protocols

The player association hopes to ensure a safe return to live events during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Counter-Strike Professional Players' Association (CSPPA) announced on Friday that it is working with tournament organizers on creating "clear and safe" protocols to minimize the health risks that players will face while competing on LAN during the current pandemic.

The protocols will include regulations regarding "travel, testing policies, interaction with staff, media, and fans", as well as "other general safety measures", the release states. The conclusions of these discussions could come into play as soon as December, when ESL plans to hold its second big LAN event of the year.

Post match behavior is not the only thing the CSPPA is looking to change

The CSPPA notes that returning to physical events during the pandemic exposes players to "considerable health risks" due to travel and interaction with a larger number of people.

Aside from the IEM Global Challenge, which is scheduled for December 15-20, no other big international LANs have been formally announced. A recent report has, however, linked North America-based teams with a trip to Europe, noting BLAST as one of the driving forces behind the potential move.

If Evil Geniuses, Liquid, 100 Thieves, and MIBR were to travel to the Old Continent, BLAST would, instead of having two separate regions, hold their Fall Series tournament as a single event, albeit an online one. A similar plan is is seemingly in place for Flashpoint 2, which "will be limited to teams who are able to quarantine in Europe".

the teams just have to ``quarintain`` aka doing what they always do: sitting in rooms for two weeks and practice and that stuff and than they can do a big LAN its actually not that difficult

I mean sitting in the same hotel with same 5+ people for 2 weeks isn't as easy as it sounds, especially not even on your home continent

because it's not a normal thing to do, and if players won't perform at their best because of these conditions, what's the point of having lans in the first place? NObody cares about what obo did

Which major was the one where each team had their own sort of enclosed booth in the center of the arena? They could do something like that again and put barriers between players.

It's not the players, it's the crowd. The players have been playing in the same room for months now.
