fnatic fend off c0ntact at Flashpoint 2 to break losing streak

c0ntact will next play Dignitas for survival in Group A's lower bracket.

Maikil "⁠Golden⁠" Selim's side won their first series in the last six in the Flashpoint 2 opener, earning the chance to take their revenge on MAD Lions in the group's upper final following the Swedes' disappointing end to their campaign at IEM Beijing-Haidan on Tuesday.

c0ntact picked Mirage for the first map of the series as their favorite choice, and one that fnatic has also been struggling on in recent times. This didn't end up being one of those times, however, as the Swedes looked in control apart from a streak of momentum from the Marco "⁠Snappi⁠" Pfeiffer-led squad on the CT side, with all-around good individual performances earning fnatic a straight-forward victory.

But then things quickly spiraled out of control for the favorites on Train, their own map pick. It all began with an eco victory from c0ntact, who ramped up the momentum with Rokas "⁠EspiranTo⁠" Milasauskas, Otto "⁠ottoNd⁠" Sihvo, and Rigon "⁠rigoN⁠" Gashi all putting up key multikills as they looked to dominate on the CT side. fnatic managed to salvage the first half after all with the last four rounds, but when the sides switched another forcebuy win saw c0ntact seize control of the rest of the map and rally to a 16-9 equalizer.

Overpass was left to decide the series and at first looked like it would be a bloody affair, with Golden, Ludvig "⁠Brollan⁠" Brolin, and rigoN stepping up to the plate with huge plays as the two teams engaged in a blow-for-blow battle. The back-and-forth finally ended when fnatic stacked bathrooms with a forcebuy and walked away with four out of the last five rounds of the first half.

Once on the offense, the big favorites quickly reached 14 rounds after Freddy "⁠KRIMZ⁠" Johansson won an awkward, extended 1v1 duel around the A boxes to clinch the pistol round, and soon fnatic rounded out the series 2-1.
