Gen.G upset OG in Flashpoint 2 Group C opening match

Gen.G were in firm control throughout both Train (16-5) and Dust2 (16-10), sweeping OG to proceed through the Group C upper bracket.

Gen.G, who are playing with Richard "Xizt" Landström and Rasmus "kreaz" Johansson as stand-ins and have no official matches played since ESL Pro League Season 12 in September, when Damian "daps" Steele and Sam "s0m" Oh left the team, made quick work of OG in their opening Flashpoint 2 match. Hansel "BnTeT" Ferdinand and company did so convincingly, winning their pick, Train, by an ample 16-5 margin, after which OG played into Gen.G’s puggy style on Dust2, which ended 16-10.

OG, who come from being eliminated from IEM Beijing-Haidian in last place following losses to FaZe and Spirit, will now have to continue through the Group C lower bracket after their defeat at the hands of Chris "Elmapuddy" Tebbit’s men. There, they will face off against Cloud9, who lost their opening map to Virtus.pro. The red-hot CIS squad, who have won 13 out of their last 15 matches, will now be Gen.G’s next test, as the two will meet in the upcoming upper bracket match.

koosta, who is now leading Gen.G, ended the series with a 1.66 rating

Gen.G successfully hit the B site in the first two rounds of Train to take the lead on the attack, which they extended against pistols with a fast A play. OG put the Terrorists through the blender as they tried to hit A again in the first gun round, but were then unable to stop a B play, going down 1-4. The two teams then traded rounds, with Gen.G playing a straightforward duel-heavy playstyle that gave them an edge over OG on the way to a 7-2 lead. OG won a pistol buy off the back of two P250 opening kills by Mateusz "mantuu" Wilczewski, but they were unable to follow it up as Gen.G dominated the half, 12-3.

kreaz won a 1vs2 clutch on an A retake with two USP headshots to keep Gen.G in a commanding lead, as they hit match point two rounds later. Without being able to get a bomb plant, OG went into what could have been the last round with two Galils, two Desert Eagles and a Scout, but kept the map alive in-extremis. The dream of a comeback didn’t last long, however, as they were stopped on their tracks at 5-16.

Gen.G were once again first out of the gate on OG’s map pick, Dust2, this time on the CT side. After winning the first three rounds, Gen.G gave up their first round of the half, but immediately went back to putting up a wall as OG were unable to find openings into either bomb site. Gen.G maintained control of the half, giving up just a scattering of rounds on the way to a 10-5 half.

Four kills by Issa "ISSAA" Murad kept OG in the game, as they brought it back to 6-10, but unable to win against Gen.G’s forcebuy, they once again started to fall behind. OG once again won a round with nothing to back it up, as Gen.G kept their momentum, and although they couldn't immediately close out the series, they eventually did, 16-10, to keep progressing through the Group C upper bracket.

Xizt didnt igl in Faze and he did pretty damn well there. Xizt isnt that bad of an aimer. But he cant igl and do anything else because midround calls makes him look like hes standing afk.

He's not a bad fit for a Xyp9x type of role, he's a super smart player. They'd have to get someone better than Kreaz though.

I don't base my decision of whether or not players are good based on one game. He could've gone 40-0 and I wouldn't really have cared. It's totally possible for him to prove me wrong with time, I just haven't seen anything from him over time to convince me he is worth a slot on this roster. Xizt is a veteran player who is ice cold under pressure, which is super valuable to have on a roster like this.

Xizt as IGL is outdated, his calling style doesn't work anymore and he seems unwilling to adapt. But he has great reads, I think he might have been second calling for Koosta, even though Autimatic didn't admit it in the interview afterwards. So he can do a great job as secondary (which he also did in FaZe for Karrigan), and without his focus on calling he can actually do quite a lot, because he's not a bad player if he puts his attention to it.

Imo xizt and kreaz will stay in gen.g after but this was their first tournament and xizt doesnt know their style so koosta lead the team. After this tournament they will get use to each other and xizt will call.

Good strats? They forced a pug and OG somehow fell for it. I like the Gen.G players, but this was OG playing bad, not Gen.G playing good. Pugs work well with stand-ins and American players because they're used to that.

+1 yep considering that most people just remember his bomb plant flubs, I think this is fair enough to say. Honestly if you consider older NA players, say players like freak, jdm or something, actually amazing how consistent and relevant koosta has stayed. I mean he's probably not current-liquid tier, but he's still solid

LOL what happened? This was a bit unexpected, but a good outcome in 1 way. Though I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed in OG, seeing as they've been together for several months now.

Xizt isn't bad by any means, but he's certainly not who he used to be.

Worst case scenario Gen G should've upset one map. The fact that OG gets blown out 0-2 with such a significant margin by this team is nothing less than extremely embarrassing.

If you watch player cam of Gen.G at the end of dust2, Kreaz already wore Gen.G jersey and Xizt did not. And players of Gen.G keep saying that they haven't found the 5th player not the last 2 players that means they have found their 4th. So, probably Kreaz already signed a contract with Gen.G?
