Chaos take down EG; to IEM Beijing-Haidian grand final

Chaos took down EG with a 2-1 victory in the semi-final of IEM Beijing-Haidian to earn themselves a spot in the grand final.

Another upset has taken place in IEM Beijing-Haidian as Chaos, who DBLTAP reports are currently considering pulling the plug on their CS:GO roster, have seen to the elimination of Evil Geniuses, defeating the team in a three-map series (16-11 Overpass, 6-16 Inferno, 16-11 Nuke).

Chaos' victory sets them up against Triumph in the grand final of IEM Beijing-Haidian, with Alan "⁠Shakezullah⁠" Hardeman's side having secured a surprising victory of their own over Liquid on Friday. The two teams will face off at 21:00 on Sunday for the lion's share of the $70,000 prize pool, as well as a spot in IEM Global Challenge, where the likes of FURIA and HEROIC currently await.

The series got underway on Overpass, the map pick of Chaos, with the two teams trading rounds early on before Anthony "⁠vanity⁠" Malaspina's men stabilized to pull ahead 5-2. Multi-kill rounds from Tsvetelin "⁠CeRq⁠" Dimitrov helped EG get back in the running, but rounds remained sparse for the No. 8 ranked team in the first half as they trailed 5-10 heading into the side swap.

Chaos maintained their lead in the second half, converting a pistol victory into a five-round spree to immediately attain match point. Evil Geniuses mounted a brief comeback effort, mustering 11 rounds, but were shut down in round 27 as double kills from vanity and Nathan "⁠leaf⁠" Orf allowed Chaos to close out their map pick.

A triple kill from leaf kept Chaos in control at the onset of Inferno, seeing the team move up to a 3-0 start before EG were able to respond with four rounds of their own. Although Chaos stole back the lead with two more rounds, they were soon left out of sorts as a strong showing from Tarik "⁠tarik⁠" Celik helped Evil Geniuses gain control, with the team only conceding one additional round en route to a 16-6 map victory.

A similarly strong start to Nuke allowed Chaos a three-round edge to kick off the decider, but the team's early lead quickly dwindled as EG cracked through the CT defenses with a pistol buy to swing momentum in their favour. Peter "⁠stanislaw⁠" Jarguz and company fought back from there, winning six of the ensuing seven rounds for a 7-4 lead, but Chaos remained in contention as the secured the final four of the half to narrowly pull ahead at the break.

Triple kill rounds from stanislaw and Vincent "⁠Brehze⁠" Cayonte helped propel EG into the lead as they took the first three rounds of the second half, with Chaos finding one of their own once they had rifles in their hands.

It seemed as if EG would put Chaos on the back foot as three frags from Brehze put his side in a 4vs2 advantage in the ensuing round, but a recovery from Chaos allowed the team to fight back and take the lead, 11-10. Although EG were able to tie up the match in the following round, Chaos remained relentless as they answered in kind, utilizing the momentum on the attack as they left EG no chance to fight back into the map by winning five rounds straight to close out the series with a 16-11 map win.
