With the return of the "Frags from the past" series in which we revisit historical highlight plays, we go back to 2013 and Richard "⁠Xizt⁠" Landström's tournament-saving clutch for Ninjas in Pyjamas.

The smoke defuse Xizt pulled off to rescue Ninjas in Pyjamas from elimination in a near-impossible situation, setting them on the path towards the DreamHack Summer 2013 title, is where we start our journey with "Frags from the past".

Xizt's clutch kept NIP alive

Going into the ~$30,000 tournament in Jönköping, Sweden, Ninjas in Pyjamas were no longer the unstoppable force they were earlier in the year, as their 87-0 LAN streak was brought to an end and they showed some vulnerability online, but Christopher "⁠GeT_RiGhT⁠" Alesund and co. were a big favorite for the trophy nonetheless.

In the group stage, Mathias "⁠MSL⁠" Lauridsen's Western Wolves handed Ninjas in Pyjamas a shocking 16-2 defeat to set the Swedes up for a decider match against Publiclir.se, who pushed them to the limits and got to the brink of victory.

At 15-11, the underdogs were in a 5v2 situation against Adam "⁠friberg⁠" Friberg and Xizt and the match seemed done and dusted, but the in-game leader's clutch saved Ninjas in Pyjamas from elimination and allowed a comeback in overtime. The Swedes stepped their game up in the playoffs and went on to win the tournament over Epsilon in the final.

he said friberg not xizt?? btw he didnt do anything GODLIKE, opponent made more mistakes than NIP playin good.... a random ninja was more exciting than this, i know it means all to them going to OT etc but it wasnt anythin flashy... the way he saved them was dull, period! rly 2/8 hype from hltv tbh......................😡😡 ps why are they posting this, i mean its x years ago and so random?? care to elaborate hltv ty

Cuz its memorable. This series calls "Frags From the Past" if you watch series on youtube you can see memorable frag from HeatoN against 4Kings on aztec its even bigger shit 3 people cant kill on CT with USP at the beginning at close distance and yet its still there cuz its memorable frag

Fifflaren was actually pretty good back in 2012 and then kind of slowly and gradually degraded... fifflaren was still a vital member of NiP.

I was just stating NiP achieved 87-0 with the help of Fifflaren, credit to Fifflaren for realising he wasn't cutting the mustard back in 2014 after winning the Major, obviously. Fifflaren was very good in 2012 but obviously within rational reason.
