suNny leads FPX to first win in ESL Pro League vs. Renegades

The Australians suffered their second defeat in the league.

FunPlus Phoenix recorded on Tuesday their first victory with Miikka "⁠suNny⁠" Kemppi as they dispatched Renegades 2-0 on day two of ESL Pro League Season 13. With this win, the Finnish player brought an end to a personal negative streak that stretched back to September 16, having lost the last ten matches that he played for ENCE before leaving the team and linking up with FPX as a stand-in for ESL Pro League.

There were noticeable improvements from FunPlus Phoenix when compared to Monday's showing against Complexity, but things still got messy sometimes as the team are still trying to find their identity. They gave Renegades very little room to operate throughout the series, with suNny topping the scoreboard on both maps and finishing Dust2 with a 7-3 opening duel record.

suNny won his first official match in five months

"We were kind of sloppy yesterday, so we tried to change a lot of things, we fixed a lot of things," Pavle "⁠Maden⁠" Bošković said after the match. "We tried to play more like an FPL style, getting in their faces and not giving them any respect, and it paid off.

"Communication is hard at this point. We changed a player and we're trying to communicate as much as we can. It's pretty hard since we don't have much structure. When we stop communicating, that can cause issues, and rounds can look really bad for viewers."

FunPlus Phoenix will be looking to build on the positive momentum on Wednesday when they take on HEROIC, who beat Renegades in their first match in the league. As for the Australian team, they will continue their chase for their first victory against OG.
