Funspark announces 2021 tournament series with $630,000 prize pool

The Chinese tournament organiser is hoping to run at least the final stage on LAN.

Funspark has announced that $630,000 in prize money will be up for grabs in its 2021 ULTI circuit, which will run from March through to December. The event series will have regional tournaments in Europe and Asia leading up to the Grand Final, where $300,000 will be on the line.

There will be two seasons in both regions, with each season starting with two tournaments, called 'Regional Series', featuring a GSL group stage and a single-elimination bracket. The teams with the most points over the course of the season will qualify for the next stage, a double-elimination tournament called 'Playoffs'.

Details are still scarce about the Funspark ULTI Grand Final, which will be held on LAN if everything goes according to plan after the 2020 event was postponed indefinitely because of the coronavirus pandemic. The best-performing team of the circuit in Asia and the top two teams in Europe will qualify for the Grand Final, which will also include three invited sides and the finalists of the FunSpark ULTI 2020 Europe Final, a $250,000 tournament announced on Saturday.

Below you can find all the dates for the Funspark ULTI 2021 circuit:

Europe:

Regional Series 1 - March 29 - April 11
Regional Series 2 - May 10-23

Playoff 1 - June 14-20

Regional Series 3 - September 13-26

Playoff 2 - December 6-12

Grand Final - December (Dates TBD)

Funspark has also revealed some of the teams that will be taking part in the first Regional Series in both regions. In Europe, all the slots have been filled through invites, but, according to Funspark, there will be open qualifiers for the following tournaments in this region.

BR will revive NAs scene. Taco told that theyll be moving to NA, and TeamOne probably will fly back to NA too. Besides that, there are still two teams that I still don't what they are up to: mibr and kng's gang. With our viewship, chances are that we can lure some sponsors and bring back some love that NA had.

cool story bro, i hope it goes great. I'm just saying 1) traveling all the way to Asia has been historically annoying, 2) there are always problems with something and 3) Lawyers are always needed to get paid (specially if you win, 2nd 3rd 4th 5th and 6th always get paid)

Yea because 9/10 tournaments do have EU and NA teams but 0 asia teams? And the EU teams are deciding that no NA teams are invited instead of the ASIAN organiser?

Exactly, this is a tournament run by Chinese CCP money to bring Europe to the east, and i am not implying it's a bad thing. But I just noticed TeamOne and there are few tier 2 NA teams

I was asking these questions for real, i thought that by your first comment you meant that Europe is deciding themselves to stray away from the US and towards China (correct me if im wrong). But the chinese organiser chooses who to invite here which means Europe/EU teams dont have any input regarding the few NA teams.
