Gambit, Heroic, FURIA invited to BLAST Premier Spring Showdown

The competition at the qualifier for BLAST Premier Spring Finals has been toughened with the addition of three teams ranked in the top 12.

BLAST has announced the final three invites for the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown, the qualifier tournament that will take place on April 13-16 and award two spots for the $425,000 Spring Finals. Gambit, HEROIC, and FURIA have joined the team list already stacked with the likes of Astralis, Liquid, and Vitality.

The Russian side which shocked fans and pundits alike by winning IEM Katowice in February will therefore have another chance to make a deep run at a premier event, but they will first have to make their way through the gauntlet in the Showdown.

HEROIC were also invited after impressing with their new roster, going on a seven series win streak with Ismail "⁠refrezh⁠" Ali and Rasmus "⁠sjuush⁠" Beck. Lastly, the highest-ranked Brazilian squad FURIA was also handed a spot in the Showdown, which will be their third tournament with American AWPer Paytyn "⁠junior⁠" Johnson.

The BLAST Premier Spring Showdown will feature 16 teams in total, with a cutthroat single-elimination bracket deciding which two teams will advance to the Finals. Nine teams are currently confirmed for the qualifier, while the remaining seven teams will be decided through regional events.

Regional quali always has its own right, hopefully our boys will be in shape, considering that they're bootcamping and working hard to improve even more. Looking at the likely opponents, it should be manageable but they can't underestimate their potential rivals. Winstrike is a really dangerous team, if they have a good day, they will be a difficult obstacle to pass. Honestly, I don't believe in EXTREMUM after having such a tough period, constantly struggling at even t3 scene. Spirit SHOULD qualify to the main tournament but anything is possible. Otherwise, it would be a big disaster and disappointment.

Yep, I hope for the best. I was kinda sad after announcing a final teams in EPL cause I was counting on seeing Spirit in another T1 tournament with the best teams in the world. Sadly, they hadn't gotten an invite because of meaningless ESL standings. I trust them and I hope that they will be able to prove that we can consider them as a T1 team right now, right. I don't want to jinx but I have a feeling that they have all these possibilities to become a better team than others from CIS, for example Gambit or VP in the long run. Anyway, it's gonna be a fierce fight for #1 in CIS.

btw as a spirt fan as yourself, i wanted to ask a question about sdy. what's exactly his role in spirit? i've seen him do it all. i've seen him entry, support, and he even seems to secondary call alongside chopper. if u can clear this up it would be much appreciated thx :D

He's supposed to be a support/lurker :) But as you said, he does a lot of for the team, he is capable of opening rounds. However, magixx is an entry, mir is a star player and the secondary entry fragger. But yea, sdy is capable of doing everything at this point
