ESL Pro League Season 13FURIA beat TeamOne in Brazilian derby
The underdogs put up a strong fight but Andrei "arT" Piovezan and co. prevailed in the closing stages of both maps.
FURIA secured their first victory in Group C of ESL Pro League 13 with a close win over fellow Brazilian side TeamOne, who put in a combative display in this keenly-contested affair.
"I think we could easily go 5-0 in this group, we just have to play well against NAVI and Gambit," FURIA AWPer Paytyn "junior" Johnson said in the post-match interview, adding that the team's in-game communication has greatly improved following weeks of practice. "English really isn't a problem anymore. Most of the time the English comms are pretty easy, I don't really get confused with any of the comms anymore. The only thing that is tough is in hectic rounds sometimes."
FURIA took an early lead on the CT side of Nuke after stealing the second round with a force-buy, but TeamOne improved once they had money to buy rifles and won the first half by a minimal margin. The game was tied 11-11 and leaning towards Pedro "Maluk3" Campos's men when arT fragged two players with an AK-47 on the B bombsite to put his team in the lead again. FURIA took control of proceedings after that and quickly secured the map.
TeamOne won the pistol and the anti-eco in Mirage, but their CT economy was broken after they lost the first gun round, with FURIA romping to a 7-3 lead. Felipe "skullz" Medeiros stopped the bleeding with a great triple-kill hold on the B bombsite, with TeamOne adding three more rounds to their tally before the end of the half.
FURIA piled the pressure on their opponents as they won three in a row to kick off their CT side. TeamOne, however, didn't give up and chained five together to take the lead. arT and junior's double-AWP setup came alive in the end as the pair picked up important kills to make sure FURIA closed the series in regulation.
