Virtus.pro beat fnatic 2-0 in ESL Pro League

The CIS squad now hold a 3-1 record ahead of the final Group D match day.

Virtus.pro secured their third win in four ESL Pro League matches with a victory over fnatic, and momentarily sit atop Group D with 9 points ahead of Astralis and Liquid’s matches against Endpoint and Evil Geniuses, respectively.

Despite the loss fnatic are not mathematically out of contention yet, although they would need a miracle to make it to the playoffs as their future is no longer solely in their hands and Astralis taking down Endpoint would mean the end of the road for the Swedes.

"We played Liquid in the IEM Katowice semi-finals, I think they’ve re-watched the game and they’ll be ready, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be ready for them," Mareks "⁠YEKINDAR⁠" Gaļinskis said regarding their upcoming bout with Liquid in the final group stage match day, "it’s going to be a great game, it seems like they’re in good form and we’re always up for a great match of CS, that’s the most important thing."

fnatic got off to a brilliant start on the attack in the first map, stacking up five rounds before Virtus.pro could stabilize, although Train quickly became the CIS squad’s playground as they doubled up on fnatic’s initial run and took ten of their own before switching sides. Having won the second pistol round, Dzhami "⁠Jame⁠" Ali and company set themselves up for victory, giving up just four rounds before two quick entries by YEKINDAR on A sealed the deal in favor of Virtus.pro on the 25th round, 16-9.

fnatic were once again first out of the gate, this time on the CT side of Dust2, although Virtus.pro didn’t take long to even things out as both teams went back-and-forth, although the CIS squad ultimately took the lead at the half, 9-6. Virtus.pro secured the second pistol round and started a sprint to the finish line, winning seven out of nine rounds to secure the map, 16-8, and close out the series.
