cs_summit 8 Online to host first North American RMR event

The 2021 Regional Major Ranking tournament series in North America will begin in the latter half of May.

Beyond the Summit has announced that it will host the first North American Regional Major Ranking tournament in 2021 leading up to the PGL Major Stockholm, called cs_summit 8 Online.

Other details about the tournament are sparse at the moment apart from the dates of the two open qualifiers, which will run on consecutive weekends of May 1-2 and 8-9, and the main event, taking place on May 14-30.

More information about the first RMR event in North America will be announced at a later date. It is expected that a portion of the participating teams will be determined via invites based on their current standing in the ranking, as was the case in 2020's tournaments. The ladder was partially reset ahead of the 2021 season, with the teams who placed in the Legends, Challengers, and Contenders spots having received 600, 300, and 100 points, respectively.

cs_summit 8 Online will help determine the participants at the PGL Major Stockholm, which will take place in the Swedish capital from October 23 to November 7 and have $2 million on offer. Valve aims to host up to two more ranking tournaments ahead of the Major, with the final one planned to be held on LAN.

Teams have the opportunity to choose the region in which they will begin their campaign in the 2021 Regional Major Ranking. The spots on offer at the next Major will then be based on where the existing 2020 Legends and Challengers (FURIA, Evil Geniuses, EXTREMUM, and Liquid in the North American ranking) opt to compete.

The current standings of the North American Regional Major Ranking (after taking into account lineup changes following the previous season and the resulting point deductions) look as follows:

1-3. Evil Geniuses - 480 points
1-3. FURIA - 480 points
1-3. EXTREMUM - 480 points
4. Liquid - 240 points

There's also some non-NA teams that could potentially do NA RMR, like GODSENT, MIBR, O PLANO, EXTREMUM, ATK, Team One, etc. If some of those teams join it could be a pretty solid tournament.

I have been wondering, why is EXT flag shown as NZ when 2 players are from AU and only 1 from NZ? Or shouldn’t it be an Asia or Oceania flag since majority of players are from Asia and Oceania?

Their flag is the OCE flag. It's the NZ flag with a white star on the left. It's a shit flag but it is what it is

Finally some RMR news , i think all the orgs will be heading back to their regions because the competition in EU too tight so weaker regions = free slot. Extremium when got announced said they would be playing RMRs in NA so they will be here as well. Furia and Liquid are obviously gonna be the teams with highest expectations in this , looking forward to this ! Edit : Qualifying teams are probably gonna be like Extra Salt, Pain, BNB, Triumph etc. Gonna be great level of competition.

cs_summit online isn't the same as on LAN, I really liked this tournament on LAN, I felt like there was a really good atmosphere, now it's just another event. But maybe some good teams are going to play there, maybe some good matchups anyway, I hope so.
