Gambit stop Akuma's miracle run to lock EPIC League CIS grand final spot

Akuma are set to rematch Virtus.pro in the consolidation final.

Gambit have secured a place in the EPIC League CIS grand final following a stunning 2-0 win over Akuma, stopping the underdogs' hot streak at the Regional Major Ranking event after the surprise of the tournament took down the region's No. 2 and No. 3 teams, Natus Vincere and Virtus.pro, in the first two rounds of the upper bracket.

Vladislav "⁠nafany⁠" Gorshkov's squad now await their opponent in the title decider, scheduled for Sunday at 19:00 . They will be joined by the winner of the Akuma-Virtus.pro consolidation final, a rematch from the upper bracket semi-final encounter between the two teams.

Hobbit was on fire in the upper bracket final

Having handily taken down Natus Vincere and Virtus.pro on Mirage in the first two rounds of the upper bracket, Akuma decided to pick the map for the third consecutive time into Gambit, but they found the No. 1 side a much tougher challenge.

A pistol round victory was about as much as Dmytro "⁠SENSEi⁠" Shvorak & co. could muster against the CIS region's top team, as Abay "⁠HObbit⁠" Khassenov and Sergey "⁠Ax1Le⁠" Rykhtorov spearheaded Gambit's dominant performance on the opener to clinch a 16-5 win and a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three affair.

The favorites didn't leave much to chance on Overpass. They immediately seized control of the map after getting off to a 5-0 lead and never let go of their advantage despite Akuma finding some footing later in the first half, rallying to another convincing victory to secure the grand final spot without breaking a sweat.

Gotta say, Hobbit may not be the best player out there but he's a born winner. Boosts teams beyond expectations for sure. Don't know how but he does, i'm sure nobody expected the old roster to actually win that Major more so without him.

G2, NiP and Mouz are on the rise rn, just like Gambit and VP are. Idk what's your problem with them. There have been a bunch of very important transfers so it is natural that the power rankings are all over the place. On the other hand I admit that any CIS event is more stacked right now than any EU event just because of NaVi, Gambit, VP and Spirit going at each other. Third, based on your logic though having Akuma in the final stage of an RMR is a disgrace to CIS as well... so...

I do agree that there needs to be an ESIC investigation into this, but the twitch clips of people looking at the radar and other players calling them out don't mean shit. Gambit looking great again, I think they are confirming here that they are still the no.1, I think they are going to win the final. Akuma made some stupid mistakes, that cost them a lot of important rounds, they looked stressed.
