IEM Summer 2021Vitality, Gambit secure opening wins in IEM Summer
The $250,000 tournament kicked off with BO1 matches in group A.
The first pair of matches in IEM Summer 2021 has been concluded with Vitality and Gambit getting wins over Complexity and Sprout, respectively.
Both matches took place on Vertigo, with the Vitality - Complexity match proving competitive in the first half (8-7), before the Frenchmen took control of the game to close it out 16-8. The world No. 1 team Gambit was never in danger from Sprout, however, cruising to a 16-6 win.
Justin "jks" Savage started the match with an impressive quad kill on the defense of the B bombsite, but neither his nor the opposing side managed to build any momentum soon. As the first half finished 8-7, Jayson "Kyojin" Nguyen Van and William "RUSH" Wierzba were the unlikely heroes for their sides, but the game was quite different after the switch. Vitality sprinted towards the finish line with a near-flawless CT side as Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut posted a 7-2 opening kill record for the map.
Sprout, who earned a spot at IEM Summer through the ESL National Championship Global Playoff, were no match for Gambit in the game played on the B stream. Timofey "interz" Yakushin and Dmitry "sh1ro" Sokolov topped the scoreboard with 1.86 and 1.55 ratings respectively, while Sprout's star Josef "faveN" Baumann was the only one to post an above-average rating for the Germans (1.15)
