G2 eliminate FaZe from BLAST Premier Spring Final
Despite a slip-up on their map pick, Inferno, G2 were able to defeat FaZe in a three-map series to proceed through the lower bracket.
G2 bounced back from their opening match defeat at the hands of BIG and have now won their first lower bracket match in a three-map series against FaZe, securing their survival in the tournament while knocking out the international squad whose elimination comes after they played two three-map series but ultimately fell short both times in Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer’s return to the roster.
"We could have lost this game a year ago or even more recently, we work a lot on how to be super focused in officials without letting it get to you too much even if you lose, so you stay in that relaxed state that helps you have better decision-making and not panicking too quickly," Damien "maLeK" Marcel said in the post-match interview when asked about G2's resilience in the decider map after losing their pick. "You just basically trust the process and the way you play and you believe in the next map and that’s it."
Having made it through the first round of lower bracket play, G2 are now waiting in the lower bracket semi-finals, where they will face the loser of the upper bracket semi-final pitting Gambit and Complexity. FaZe, now out of the running, will have some time to fine-tune the machine with olofmeister back in the lineup ahead of next month's IEM Cologne Play-In.

FaZe struggled to make an impact on Ancient in the early rounds as it wasn’t until a 1vs4 afterplant clutch on A by Helvijs "broky" Saukants in the seventh round that they were able to get on the board. G2 then tallied two more to secure a lead by halftime, but Finn "karrigan" Andersen and company were able to link five rounds before the half to stay competitive. FaZe, who played a perfect CT side against NAVI in their opening match weren’t able to contain G2, struggling to keep the attacking squad at bay as Nemanja "nexa" Isaković and company went to take the map 16-10.
Inferno got off to an even start, but it was FaZe who were able to run away as they managed to build up an economy on the defense with a strong performance by in-game leader karrigan. G2 managed to squeeze in a few rounds of their own on the way to a 6-9 half, but FaZe didn’t let up and hit double digits after winning the second pistol round, running away and securing a 16-12 to force the series to go into the third and final map of the match.
On Nuke it was G2 who were quick out of the gates on the T-side, losing only one round out of the first seven, although FaZe put on some pressure by winning three rounds in a row, fighting to get back into the half and build an economy, but G2 managed to pull ahead with nexa and François "amanek" Delaunay leading the way to a 10-5 half. Nikola "NiKo" Kovač and company then dominated on the CT side, winning the side cleanly and closing the map out 16-5 to proceed through the tournament’s lower bracket.
