G2 move past Complexity at IEM Cologne; BIG defeat Virtus.pro

The Kovač cousins wreaked havoc upon the 'Juggernaut'.

G2 got their IEM Cologne campaign off to a great start following a convincing 2-0 win over Complexity in the first round of IEM Cologne's Group A. Nemanja "nexa" Isaković's side were in control for the majority of the series, though they left it late to secure Vertigo after struggling on the CT side, where Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač had a dominant showing (18-8). Nikola "NiKo" Kovač then took over on Dust2, going 27-9 (15-0 only in the second half) to inspire his team to a quick victory.

G2 came out firing on all cylinders and were the better side for the majority of the opening half on Vertigo. They racked up 10 rounds on the T side, but the scoreline could have been even worse for Complexity if it were not for great individual plays from Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke and Benjamin "blameF" Bremer.

huNter- and NiKo led the charge for G2 against Complexity

The 'Juggernaut' came out of the break looking a different side and shut down any chances of their opponents stringing rounds together, but G2 still managed to scrape to a narrow victory on a shoddy buy in the final round after huNter- - who had 18 frags to his name in the half - had put the team on map point with a stunning trio of frags.

huNter- carried his sparkling form into Dust2, where he went 17-8 on the T side as G2 raced to an 11-4 lead after a dominant 8-0 run to close the half. After the break, it was NiKo's time to shine: the younger Kovač pulled off an ace clutch in the third round to put a halt to Complexity's momentum and inspire G2 to a five-round streak that brought the series to a close.

In the next round, G2 will go up against BIG, who extended their LAN winning streak with a convincing two-map success against Virtus.pro. The German side, who came through the Play-In stage after beating Sprout and OG, took the lead in the series with a narrow win on Dust2, where Johannes "tabseN" Wodarz showed glimpses of his old self on the CT side (1.88 rating, 157 ADR).

The first half of Inferno was a tit-for-tat affair, but then BIG took control of the game after switching to the T side and went on an 8-0 run en route to map point. Virtus.pro tightened up with hopes of pushing the game to overtime, only to lose the map after being caught off-guard by an A fake.

only ifs and buts with these g2 fans. they've been saying the same thing since malmo 2017 and ... guess what, you've won a grand total of 0(zero) trophies since then, whereas faze have won 7

VP gotta make some changes. They have great players, but they are put in some sort of suffocating system where they can't really show their full skill.

+1 On Dust 2 T side, they won 0 full buy rounds, when they play slow and BIG responded to it correctly But funny thing is VP won a glock round and a force buy round by playing fast At least they didn't run out of time today, but like you said their system is really limiting their players

Jame isnt s1mple. VP cannot have their entire stratbook based around baiting for Jame and expecting to win off of that. Keep jame and yekindar, - everyone else.

Honestly james is baiting by lurking the entire round. He is a good awper but he has no impact right now. They should put somebody else at the igl position. I prefer navi's stratbooks anyway.

VP letting down, their playstyle clearly isn't working, at least with the players they got now. Why do they still try to replicate that caterpillar style of Na'Vi who always suffer from it themselves... They're meant to play fast and aggressive now but they don't.

even just mix in fast and slow rounds would already be better they lost all fully buy rounds in D2 by playing ALL of them slow, but win 2 low buy rounds by fast B attacks

just like maniac said in hltv confirmed, VP actually never change their playstyle for years. Even gambit plays slow too their details are much more polished and they let their opponent keep guessing. When ykd joined he did crazy plays that finally added some unpredictability to VP, but now opponent knows what to expect this leads to VP's downfall So it is not "ykd bad" but rather ykd can no longer hide the flaws of their system
