G2 advance to IEM Cologne playoffs, Virtus.pro come back to send Complexity packing

G2 will face off against Gambit on Sunday for a direct berth in the semi-finals.

G2 have advanced to the Group A upper bracket final on the back of a dominant victory over BIG in the second round, securing a spot in the IEM Cologne playoffs already ahead of their final group stage match against Gambit. Over in the lower bracket, Virtus.pro have ousted Complexity from the tournament after coming back from the brink of elimination on map two.

Complexity are the second team to exit the main event early after MOUZ were eliminated at the hands of Liquid during the second day. The European side around Benjamin "blameF" Bremer will have a tough time accepting the loss after they were up 1-0 in the series and led 15-10 on Dust2, only to see the CIS squad come back to win in overtime and clinch the series in close fashion on Overpass.

The Kovačs have continued to lead the way for G2

Virtus.pro have moved on to the second round of the Group A lower bracket, setting up a matchup against Ninjas in Pyjamas scheduled for Saturday at 20:00 . G2 will have the next day off before they meet the current No.1 side in a match that will determine who goes to the quarter-finals and who advances directly to the semi-finals, on Sunday at 16:45 .

BIG entered their affair with G2 on the right foot, locking down their Dust2 pick without too much trouble while Florian "syrsoN" Rische made light work of François "amanek" Delaunay in the battle of the AWPs. Things quickly went awry for the German side, however, with amanek recovering from the atrocious display on the first map to help his team pull off clinical performances on Mirage and Inferno.

In the lower bracket series, Complexity seemed to have everything in their hands up until the point when they could not convert a 15-10 lead on the second map, Dust2, and conceded the series point in overtime. To make matters worse, the European squad missed out on another chance to close the best-of-three on Overpass, with a near full-eco round victory swinging the momentum towards Virtus.pro and helping Dzhami "Jame" Ali & co. clinch a hard-earned win late into the night.

Col was leading 15-10 on Dust2. Sloppy report writing without watching games or caring to properly check the stats.

Col lost that match because I "willed" vp to win so I could see the teams play overpass.

Man, that's so heartbreaking for CoL. That match started 3-4 hours late because of how ridiculously long Liquid vs mouz took. It's fine to go to quad OT sometimes but the breaks in between were just kinda too long. 5 hours for 3 maps... Complexity and VP were playing until almost 3 AM local time and production was going for more than 12 hours, that's just insane. Something needs to be done but I'm not sure if anything CAN be done.

It's how schedule works sadly. Only two matches at the same time and if first ones go full 3-mapper with OTs, last match will be played at night,

-32 fel! I know he's a team player and all but some other guy has to double lift because of his inability to defend himself or get a kill on the offense. This little man ain't built for the tier 1.

Elimination game and map, ur up 5-0 as ct on a defensive map which ut opponents isnt even good at, still u manage to lose 5v3 not only once but two rounds in a row which later on leads to 6-9 half and a lost map. Im genuinly baffled that some of these guys are paid to play this game, and alot of money aswell. Like what are the owners of these organisations thinking when they see their teams do shit like this?
