Virtus.pro beat Sinners to secure first victory in Group B

Virtus.pro are now sitting on a 1-2 record on their road to recovery from a tough start to the group.

Virtus.pro have put their first win on the board in ESL Pro League Season 14, defeating SINNERS 2-0 in the third round of play in the round robin. With the victory, the CIS side have tied the Czechs in the bottom half of the group at a 1-2 record and look to continue their recovery from the poor start in their final matches of the group against Complexity and G2.

Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis commented on Virtus.pro's struggles in the opening two matches against OG and FORZE, explaining that their individual form has been lacking. "Now we have some game-wise issues and the individual form of players that is the main problem at the moment," he said.

"When we lost against forZe we knew we need to win three games," YEKINDAR went on to say when asked about the team's chances to come back from the 0-2 start to the group. "It's going to be do or die, and I believe we usually do the best gameplay when we're in these situations."

VP secured their first win in three rounds

SINNERS picked Vertigo for the third consecutive time in the group in a choice that did not end up paying dividends after Virtus.pro got off to a flying start on the opening map. Sanjar "SANJI" Kuliev's triple in the pistol round marked the beginning of a dominant run from the CIS team on the CT side, and from there the favorites remained in control.

After SINNERS found a sliver of a chance late in the first half, the Czech side switched over to the defense with three to their name and closed the gap to five rounds on the back of heroics from Adam "NEOFRAG" Zouhar. They were unable to capitalize on openings in the next few rounds, however, and Virtus.pro found the closing they needed before the affair got too close, at 16-9.

Inferno was more of the same, as Virtus.pro once again led 7-0 before SINNERS could find their feet, in part thanks to Aleksei "Qikert" Golubev's ace in a 2v5 situation in round five. Up 11-4 at halftime, Dzhami "Jame" Ali's team had the cushion they needed to withstand a good start to the second half from the Czechs, eventually clinching two key rounds on the A site to break their opponents' economy and drive the series home at 16-11.

usually when sanji has a good game then VP struggle...

because VP can’t get any consistently good players aside for Jame. only other player that is consistent is Sanji but he is consistently bad

I already see G2 beating VP and throwing this group into a threeway-tie.

It feels like sinners are simply solved by top tier teams on vertigo and they have quite no other go-to map. On inferno it was mix of poor decisions (nervosity?) and unluck, but they still made it surprisingly competitive. Anyway, with these performances i don't see them winning any more matches, i'll hope for close games at least.

I actualy think they should keep inferno open since your words about competitivnes on this map are 100% true. Ancient might be a chance here to drill another"naughty" map similar to Vertigo because since every opponent knows in preparations for the match Vertigo is one of the maps, your strenght might transform to your weakness.

Won't be consistent untill they have 5 players not 4 + an AWP dropper. Sinners showed some life in them, but there is huge amount of work ahead of them if they want to be competitive on T1. But GL.

Who do you mean by AWP dropper? Oskar and NEOFRAG are great, SHOCK and ZEDKO are awesome as individuals and very important part of the team, and Beastik may not be the top fragger in recent matches, but he is the IGL which he does well.

I agree, oskar and NEOFRAG are great, SHOCK is also looking really good, beastik seems like a stable fragger, Idk. how is he as an IGL though, ZEDKO looks pretty bad, but he is 23 maybe he just needs more time to adapt to new roles. Overall as I said, there is plenty of work ahead of them, but it's great to see that they already have upset potential.

For a first tier 1 event, Sinners are showing that they can be really competitive. I see a few problems in their gameplay, though. 1) Losing to eco rounds - one of the biggest problems. 2) Only one go2 map - Verigo, they need to have at least 2-3 good maps that they're confident on. 3) They always start with a 0-7, 1-7, 2-7, etc, and then try to build up, they need a better start to the game (not sure how they can get better at that, though).
