G2, mouz and Copenhagen Flames kick off IEM Fall with victories
BIG, FunPlus Phoenix and AURA get off on the wrong foot as the first round of games comes to a close.
On the A stream we had MOUZ taking on BIG on Mirage, and it was not a good time for the Germans.
The first half saw BIG start on the CT side, and a dynamic approach with plenty of unique aggression, which included solo AWP pushes through underpass, should have netted them a big half. The sheer individual skill of MOUZ prevented this from happening, with Aurimas "Bymas" Pipiras in particular shining on T side, and the half ended 8-7.
MOUZ kicked off their CT side with eight rounds to a single in reply from BIG, taking them quickly up to 15 and leaving the Germans with it all to do. BIG did manage to grab a round and break the mouz economy, but they immediately fell to a force-buy, thus the game ended 10-16.
Meanwhile, the B stream was treated to FunPlus Phoenix taking on Copenhagen Flames on Vertigo. This map was the tale of the T sides, with FunPlus Phoenix setting the bar at 9-6 in the first half. Copenhagen Flames were not to be bested, and they set about putting together a 10 round Terrorist half of their own to win the game, the final score being 16-12.
Jakob "jabbi" Nygaard stood out in particular for the Danish squad, putting up 100 ADR, a 1.48 rating, and nine more kills than his nearest teammate to secure victory.
Our third game, taking place on the C stream, was G2 vs AURA, and it was a straightforward affair for the Bosnian-French squad. G2 quickly crushed the young Swedes 16-1, being the second game to finish in the round despite a near 30 minute tech pause in the first half.
